Alaska Cruise - Part 3 - Juneau

We arrived at Juneau early in the morning of our third day. Our excursion today is a bus trip to the Mendenhall Glacier, followed by a Whale watching trip in a small boat on Auke Bay

After leaving the Mendenhall Glacier, we continue by bus to Auke Bay where we board our small boat for our whale watching trip.

Whale Ahoy!

After the whales we go on to see some Steller seals basking on the rocks.  Steller seals are what we know as sea lions, which can be distinguished from harbour seals by their practical hind flippers and ear flaps.

We leave Auke Bay to return to our tour bus which will take us back into the town of Juneau where we get a chance to browse the shops and finally return to our ship for a superb dinner before we leave on the next part of our journey.

These Tabblos are just great, Joan, despite the lack of sunshine. The glacier is magnificent, I love the Bald Eagle perched on the buoy. The Steller Seals are most interesting and thanks for the explanation as to the difference between Steller Seals and Harbor Seals. This is a great tour and I look forward to the next stage..... thanks!

All the pictures are great Joan. I cannot wait to go there maybe next year!!! In picture 2 it looks like the White horse of Dorset there, in the back ground!!! Who pinched it!!!

Thanks all for your comments. I am happy to be back making some tabblos after quite a long break. I am glad you are all enjoying my journey with me.
twoduz....Frances, I hope you make it to Alaska next year, I think you would really enjoy the trip. Well you are right about the Dorset white horse, it sure looks like it, though I think it will probably change shape with the weather...and change into a a Welsh dragon or a Yeti, or just a blob and finally melt away into a trickle.

The wild life is wonderful, but your photgraphs of the glacier are awe inspiring!
