THE END

Public Health Service Hospital

San Francisco, CA

Built: 1931

Abandoned: 1981

These people walked out of the woods while I was taking photos...

While this woman disappeared into the woods.

This was its last weekend. Starting Monday, work will begin on its "rehabilitation."

Good news for this old building. But also a bit sad, because there is twenty-year's of graffiti art covering the walls of every room inside that will be lost.

I had to be happy with just photographing the outside of the building one last time before construction begins.

Unfortunately, security wouldn't allow me to go inside. Luckily, someone else already did...

Another photographer was fortunate enough to get inside the hospital a few years ago. Take a look.

Great set, Matt. This place looks the perfect location for an urban horror movie. Shame that it didn't continue to serve its function to treat the sick.

I was so sad looking at this... thinking of all the people with no roof over their heads... and this building not being used... I'm glad it's getting a make-over... I hope it will serve some good.

It looks a little like the end of the world in the photos... and those people sort of scary... like the last ones left... (sorry)

Great tabblo...

This, to me is a powerful Tabblo. The construction used in the formatting makes me feel the tabblo itself is one tall building. Art on the walls and windows seems to grow like grass in an abandoned field.

Thanks guys. This was an interesting experiment for me. I don't typically do this much retouching, but this fantastic subject really made me want to see what its possibilities were. And I was really just lucky to have visited on its final weekend. I didn't know until I pulled into the parking lot and saw the signs posted and then spoke with security.

Very interesting Tabblo, beautiful photos, the interiors are shocking. This is a document for the future. Some Graffiti are really art. I like the girl running in the wood, too. Ciao
