Alaska Cruise Part 8b - On the Glacier at Juneau

This is the last Tabblo on the Alaska Cruise series.

Well, this is the last set of photos that I have of the cruise.  Our next port of call was another visit to Ketchikan where is absolutely poured with rain.  I didn't even get my camera out of the case.  The following day was a day at sea, and although the scenery was beautiful I had taken many photos on the northbound journey.

The Alaskan state flag above was a marker for the helicopter landings at the guide camp on top of the Mendenhal Glacier. This was where I spent most of my time on the glacier, as I am unable to walk far as a result of a former foot injury and spent my time at this flagpole taking photos of the helicopters and the people walking on the glacier.

A small but pretty waterfall

The ice beneath my feet

Exploring the surface of the top of the glacier

Base tent for the use of the guides

My view of the mountain tops from the air

The choppers are returning to pick us up for our return journey

Here's ours we will be on board in a few minutes

Now we are airborne and can see over the edge of the glacier

What a view of the valley!

......and a close up over the rim of the glacier into the river below

We are getting close to the airport now, we can see some of the buildings

We will soon be landing down there!

......and then it will be back to our bus to take us back to our cruise ship for lunch and some shopping in Juneau

You took a lot a wonderful shots for your flagpole vantage point. The shots of the people walking on the glacier gives a good comparison shot of the enormity of the glacier. Love all the airborne shots. Stunning scenery. Good narration, too.

Wow... great photos... don't you just love the turquoise color of the glaciers?? Too bad they have to get dirty too... We did this in New Zealand... flew in a helicopter to the top of Franz Joseph glacier... you have brought back many memories... Thanks, Joan!!

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. We sure had a great trip. I would just love to repeat this and I am sure I would find many different things to photograph on a second trip.
