BACH TO ROCK

One day, during my visit to Carter's house, we went to see Dad at the office...

Nice "office space"

This is where the kids perform their music

riding with the King

cool classroom!

what a great idea!

Waddaya think, Grandma? Sign me up!!!

July 2008

My son-in-law, Mark,(Carter's Daddy) is the director of the Bach to Rock store, in South Riding, Virginia. It's a place where  kids can learn to play an instrument, perform on stage, and go home with a CD of their music.

What a great concept. Kids and music and fun!

Wow, this is wonderful. I have not seen this sort of concept before but then that is not surprising considering my somewhat isolated retired lifestyle, deliberately chosen, I might add!! The posters are incredible especially the one of the Beatles/Abbey Road.

BOOYAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First of all, the photos are MAGNIFICO, my fave: the Fab4 behind the door, love the sun on the orange leather couch, the Marley poster w/ the keyboard in front: that's Hodges Studios!! I'm not even going to TOK about the various CLASSIC 60s posters (yes: SIGH!!) Carter's dad works in a super cool place, kids developing their musical talent under Jimi and Dylan's watchful eyes, terrific!! ok- BRIGHT and in your face colors for the layout kewl! and the cherry on the cake: the little thug's cutie expression looking right at grandma, did it again keena, sunday's TGIF, hey why not!!!!!
Mariusblack said at 10:13 p.m. on Aug 10, 2008:
OMG! uber-cool place. why didn't we have something like that when i was kid? and maybe i would have learned to play more songs, aside from the twilight zone theme, on the piano. hahaha! love the shots, Pam. pop culture at its finest. rolling stones, beatles, bob marley, bob dylan... WOW!!! and i love the tangerine couch by the window. i bet Carter would have a rockin' great time here. =D

Thanks you guys! I think this is the coolest place. Can you imagine? I was in heaven, just looking at the practice rooms and the sound equipment, the kid sized guitars.

Rock and roll icons all over the place. I didn't know this type of place existed for kids. Great photo round-up of the fun to be had. Carter has the Bo Diddley beat look.
Pkeener said at 10:40 p.m. on Aug 10, 2008:
Laurie, I am trying to get them closer to home in Colorado! I think the company has plans to expand, but right now, they are in Maryland and Virginia. Maybe we can start a petition!

Bill, me too. I was willing to do just 'bout anything to be employed there!

hey Allan, i think Carter is destined to rock. After taking these photos, I decided it's time for a new speedlite!

Wow , Pam-- no wonder you thought this was a great place. The posters are to die for. I wiah they had this in Tampa. They would fill up the classes quickly here. Makes me want to buy those old posters and fill my walls like i did in the 60/70s. Thanks for a most Excellent Killer tour. Carter looks like he'll grow right into the rock scene. Mark has a really Kuel job. And Grandma was the perfect photographer.

Thanks Pam,

What a great idea for a business!! I love your photo essay on this place, reflecting your usual attention to detail and artistic composition - some of those posters bring back great memories for me. And the "whatta ya think . . . . .?" picture could be the centerpiece of a great marketing piece for the new business - I think in the right context, it could bring customers in the door in droves!
Memotions said at 3:48 p.m. on Aug 12, 2008:
Absolutely fantastic concept! Now this Tabblo also makes me want to go downstairs and dig through my old collection of vinyl. I spied a few album covers here that I had forgotten about. Love this Pam. :)

What an excellent place and very nice shots. Thanks for sharing. Don't let Johnny Brillo (known to you as Johnny G--but once he was an abrasive young man) see this tho. He'll want to go.

Fun - what a great place to learn music! Have you heard of the EMP (Experience Music Project) in Seattle? I went to it a few weeks ago -- it's a cool, interactive rock museum based on Jimi Hendrix in a Frank Gehry building. Not your grandmother's museum, that's for sure -- or maybe for today's grandmothers ;)
Pkeener said at 9:51 a.m. on Aug 16, 2008:
Wendy, I have been there! It is amazing. I spent an entire day there. I was in awe. The guitar room really floored me and the Dylan, Clapton and Hendrix galleries were so cool.
