From the Ostsee to Tirol

Inn - Kufstein - Tirol

Home again!

Me 1.200km older now.

in 9 days...

Route down from Zingst to Tirol

Mecklenburg - Vorpommern

WAREN an der MÜRITZ

Müritz Nationalpark - Ruppiner Land

Hotel Sigi under the hay wagon

Havel - the chain ferry over the big river in Havelland

Martin Luther's place

... is right by the river Elbe

... and all the Elbe-cities like Torgau (old and new) ...

... or Strehlau ...

... with the accompaniment of a gradually hillier countryside ...

... suddenly the surprise of the first famous Elbe vineyards along with rocky shores ...

.. the city of Meissen (famous for china manufacture - Meissner Porzellan!)

and finally the pearl of all Elbe cities: DRESDEN (Schauspielhaus and Zwinger)

Semper - Oper

and the miracle of Dresden: Frauenkiche. Bombed down in 1945, still in heaps of debris when I came first in 1989, and now risen from the ashes, fresh and new, showing man's power of going on: We shall overcome...

so that Dresden's skyline is now changed, really changed !

Erzgebirge - MARIENSTEIN - the place of Gottfried Silbermann, the organ builder ...

... the man without a face...

a copy of the Silbermann organ in Bremen ...

Viewing towards Bad Elster in the morning;

leaving the Vogtland from Plauen to  Czechia ...

CHEB (Eger)

Planá

Freistaat Bayern - Bayrischer Wald and the river Regen on a cycle path ...

The Danube - near Deggendorf - going now on the DONAURADWEG ...

Vilshofen and the monastery of Schweiklberg

... down do PASSAU where the river INN (Aenus) unites with the DANUBE

Schärding am Inn and its cosy market place ...

... now up the Innradweg (River cycle path Inn)

... passing Braunau - Adolf Hitler's birthplace ...

Simbach has put up a statue of the God Aenus showing his back towards Braunau ...

... we visit Marktl - Pope Bendikt's birthplace ...

... persecuted by black clouds and virtually drained when arriving in WASSERBURG am Inn

Well, it's almost done, people, I'm knackered and can't stop filling myself up with bottles of water and juice of all kind :-)

Sigi, you are really totally CRAZY!!!!!! 1200 kms in nine days, by bike...????? Is it real? Do you drink orange or Apfelsaft or an strange magic liquid...?
The photos are very good, they guide us by your way, I liked them a lot. Very didactic the idea to show the map! I loved the villages, so so so typical, with those squares and those statues!!!!! Who is the Man without a face...? Is it an old tale, a legend...? And who is the man in other sculpture, in the water...? The countryside areas so so paceful, so sunny and green ! Have you really slept under a wagon, isn´t it dangerous...?
The historic places are very interesting, too (and from very different people: the Pope, Martin Luther...!). I liked a lot because these images are not showing great cities but tiny and nice towns and unknown places which you can only know... by bike or by tabblo!!!

Sigi, this amazing trip brought back memories of my biking days in the early fifties when I was in a cycling club when all roads had very few cars and much safer to cycle. Thanks for the trip through these countries. JOE.
