Silhouette on a Twig

This shot was taken mid morning when just a bit of sun captured her as she turned to the right.

When this little female Ruby-Throated Hummingbird isn't at the feeder, she keeps a close eye on me from her perch, nearly hidden in a nearby spruce tree.

The perch is in the shadows. The more grainy shots were taken with a Panasonic FMZ 5. The shots with the soft focus and more DOF were taken with a Canon XTi 85-300mm zoom lens. Where you see the reflection in her eye, I was experimenting to see how the flash would affect the shot. Even though she was about 15 feet away, the built-in flash still brightened her up a bit.

It's so rare to see the hummingbirds perching quietly and still. Super captures.

Thank you everyone. I could sit for hours and take photos of hummingbirds. They spend a lot of time resting on perches, but generally in a spot where they are hidden from view. Hope you all have a great day.

Wow...how truly precious! Hard enough to catch a glimpse of a humming bird, but you managed to capture it resting and in hiding! Marvellous work!
