Emma thank you, we love these trees and each one is entirely different,.
Noreen we are grateful to a local farmer whose sheep keep the grass down for us!
Jan, these are situated in North-West Crete and yes they are very old trees, although we have no idea how old!

Wonderful, gnarly trees that produce such fine olives for both cooking & adding to cocktails.

Olive trees always makes me think the warmth they need to grow. They don't grow here, haha! Crete is a beautiful country and I just love olives and olive oil.

I like the different stages of the Olive - the tree, olives ripe, olive oil. I also like the lighting in #2, 3 and 4.

I just read an article in the local paper yesterday about how olive farmiing is making a come back in So Cal and how they have to watch out for a certain fly....the article didnt have pictures of the trees though so thanks for filling in the gap. Each tree has such a character of its own. They're beautiful. Great tabblo!
Candlepower said at 1:42 p.m. on Aug 16, 2008:
Beautiful old tree, Lovely!
Chilla said at 2:53 p.m. on Aug 16, 2008:
Thank you so much Teo, Pam, Jude and Pat for visiting and for your interest.
Jude, In the Mediterranean it is the olive fly that can damage the crop. We use organic methods to combat this but spraying is the norm! There are trees around the Med that are believed to be more than 2000 years old!
FDeLima said at 2:57 p.m. on Aug 16, 2008:
