AliDar said at 5:31 p.m. on Aug 15, 2008: The four leafed things are some sort of water plants, aren't they? I love that bird ornament, and the thistle shots!
Hollyridger said at 8:02 p.m. on Aug 15, 2008: Malgo, Jigs, Emma, Jodi, Jude, Pam, Deb, Pat, Doreen and dar - thank you all so much for your interest and as always, your encouraging comments. Pam, Dar is correct about the four leafed 'things' being some sort of water plant. I have not yet found it in my several books but plan to try to find it in Google. As soon as I saw the bird ornament I thought about you, Dar. I thought it was a suitable companion for your "Having a Bad Day?" tabblo! The thistle is a Cardoon (Cynara cardunculus), also called the artichoke thistle, cardone, cardoni, carduni or cardi. It is a thistle-like plant which is member of the Aster family, Asteraceae; (or archaic: Daisy family, Compositae). It is a naturally occurring variant of the same species as the Globe artichoke, and has many cultivated varieties. It is native to the Mediterranean, where it was domesticated in ancient times.
