Devil's Causeway in the Flattops Wilderness

Devil's Causeway, west of Yampa, Colorado

Cowboys on the mesa top

Huge area of grazing land on mesa top. These areas are 1600 to 1900 feet above the trailhead below and usually bordered by steep drop offs.

Flattops, cliffs, scree fields, and valley to the North of the Causeway ridge

The north flank of the Causeway

This is the nerve wrenching narrow section of the Causeway. Image is looking eastward. Very rough and irregular.

The south flank of the Causeway ridge.

The narrows of the Causeway, looking to the west.

The crossing. Using hands to scramble is a good option!

The color and views of our descent.

Checking the views one more time.

The Causeway from below on the south side, returning to the Stillwater Reservoir trailhead.

Excellent set of photos. They really show the perils of hiking with the Zumberges!!
