~ Tread Softly + Part Two + Gilled Fungi ~

Tread softly when you take a walk through the bush. You never know what is underfoot. Each day new wonders pop up. Nature never fails to surprise and delight.

Mushrooms are commonly differentiated using a gills versus pores label. Cortinarius are gilled mushrooms, the largest genus of mushrooms in the Agaricales Order. With over one thousand species, any individual species field identification can be very difficult.

I must admit that I have not eaten anything I've seen with the exception of shaggy mane and giant puffball. I'm NOT an expert and don't with to take any chances with anything that just MIGHT NOT be what I thought it was. Too Many similarities between the poisonous and edible varieties in many cases.

Patty, I will bet you that grandpa Hollingshead could have Identified most every one of them I remember when he would take spore prints if he was unsure if they were edible or poisonous.
