A book!

I ordered one of the 4x4 books from Tabblo and it arrived today!

I'm terrible with still life shots though…

Overall I'm very happy with the book, but there are a few things I wish I could have done differently…

-I didn't know exactly where to put the type on the cover and it turned out much too low, so I wish I had put that higher.

-The photos on the inside seem a bit washed out…so I wonder if I needed to upload images that were cmyk instead of the normal rgb that I upload to the web.

Other then those two things I love the book, so I will definitely order more in the future.

We're so glad that you are happy with the book. To address your points:

1) You are not terrible with still life shots.
2) The type on the cover is tricky. We are still fine-tuning the manufacturing process, and need to provide some more guidance about exactly where the pieces will go.
3) We can't handle CMYK images at the moment, so don't upload them!

No cmyk, got it!
I definitely have an understanding of why the cover might be tricky (I'm a production designer), so I wasn't too surprised by how it turned out.
Thanks for commenting!

Wow! I had no idea that it would be a hard bound book! Thanks for the cool heads up!

Sure! When they announced these I was very curious about how it was bound and what materials would be used, so I had to order one!

Nice job on the book (on both the creative and production sides). I got to see both the large and the small books when visiting the Tabblo offices a few weeks ago. The quality is very good. I've gotta get to work and order one myself...

the pages look thick and of good quality. Are the pages a matte finish? Are you satisfied the with the quality of the materials used and the printing? It looks very nice from here. And the final question, the true test... now that you have one, would you order another?? :)

JeffS-That must have been pretty cool to see them the books firsthand. I'll probably order a larger book sometime in the future just see how that comes out. : )

Lunaticprophet-The pages are coated, but not high-gloss. They are of a good weight with just a little bit of show-through from page to page. I am very satisfied with the product, my only issues were the ones I mentioned above (where the type ended up on the cover and the images seeming a bit washed out). I love that the 4x4 book has a linen cover and the use of a sleeve is much better then what I've seen for cover solutions on other sites (I'm not a fan of a diecut window on the cover). I would definitely order another book in the future (the low price helps). I hope I'm not coming across as too into the actual production of the piece, but it's difficult for me to get away from that since I deal with these kinds of things every day!
