NESSIE'S STORY

Here I was enjoying a lovely day by MY Loch when the Yank suddenly crept up, took MY photo and grabbed ME!  Before I knew what was happening, she had zipped ME into her backpack with just MY head and one leg out of the bag.  She kept muttering something about, "I'll show Kathy the Loch Ness Monster".  I was being monsternapped!

The Yank told ME her friend, Kathy in America, wanted to go to Scotland to see ME only. I was quite flattered that Kathy wanted to see ME exclusively - she must be quite a tasteful person, but was unsure about the Yank's plan - after all, what could possibly be better than a sighting of ME?

The first place we went to was Fort Augustus and the locks of the Caledonian Canal - the southern end of MY Loch.  The Yank asked this Lock Keeper to have a photo taken of us - I pleaded and begged him to throw ME back into MY Loch, but he just smiled and posed for the photo.

I suppose he'll tell his mates that a crazy Yank took his photo with ME!

I rode on the dashboard of the Yank's car.  Of course, I was humiliated!  She had only a little Ford Fiesta - with MY status around the world, you think she would have driven something befitting MY status - at least a Rolls Royce!

This is the view from our B&B car park in Fort William.

I wanted to drive (crazy Yank drivers)!

But I must admit, she did rather well.  She told me she had learned to drive in Australia - where ever that is.

Here I am in MY very first Bed and Breakfast room.

Is there no end to this Yank humiliating ME?  She decided I was going to be responsible for our room key after she locked herself out of our room when she went to take a shower!

What a vision!  I could just imagine her creeping down the hall and stairs to the reception desk in her old lady flannel nightgown - meeting other guests- and telling the host she had locked herself out!  Fortunately for her (unfortunately for MY satisfaction) she had hung her waterproof windcheater over the shower to dry - it had been raining the night before - so that covered her up somewhat.  Still, she must have been a bizarre sight!  Serves her right for Monsternapping ME!

I decided to have a shower while I was there.  I miss MY Loch.  Nothing to eat here though, and I am hungry!

There was heated water - what a luxury!  I must admit MY Loch is mostly cold.

After breakfast, we went to the Nevis Range and took a Gondola ride to the top - well, not to the top of Ben Nevis.

Here I am on Meall Beag (635m).  The Yank says she has better photos of the view which she will be sharing soon.  Better Photos?  What could be better than ME on a mountain top?

Here I am riding down on the Gondola.  Am I gorgeous or what?

What is this?  It comes in Pints?

After the Yank dragging ME to the "Neptune's Staircase" locks, spending hours there and not taking one photo of ME, I was disgusted!  I thought I was most important!

However, she more than made up for it by taking ME to a Pub and buying a Pint.

I must add, albeit delicately, that drinking Pints of this brew is one of her favorite pastimes!

For pity's sake, the Yank was now dragging ME up a treacherous path to Steall Falls.

This really was very beautiful and wild - from the wonderful Glen Nevis up and up!

Here is a beautiful little waterfall just MY size - I had a wonderful refreshing shower as the path was quite taxing.

I might add here that the Yank was not up to the strenuous climb to Steall Falls which we tried to get to in the late afternoon and were almost there - she complained that she hadn't eaten since breakfast,  was feeling light headed and her bladder was ready to explode - excuses, excuses, excuses! She told me she would return someday with her son and daughter (and maybe her friend Kathy) and go to the falls.  I can only hope she takes ME, too!

After the failure of getting to Steall Falls, we went to Glen Nevis Inn where we had a wonderful meal (and the Yank was able to go to the Loo!).  This scene was breathtaking - ME balancing on the balcony rail! - The mountains in the background look good, too!

Of course, we had to have a Pint!

Breakfast the next morning - we had a great table with views behind me of Fort William, Loch Linnhe and surrounding areas - don't I look fresh after yesterday's activities?

I wasn't sure what I would have - full Scottish breakfast or Kippers?  Naturally the Yank had full Scottish!

We drove through Glen Coe without the Yank taking one single photo of ME!  The Yank's excuse was that it was too windy, and she was afraid I would blow away!  Really! Who does she think she's dealing with?  Between Glen Coe and Rannoch Moor I got disgusted and decided to let her know just what I thought of her - FULL MOON!

It pays to be assertive!  We stopped at Kingshouse Hotel for a Pint.  It was an old coaching inn in the middle of Scotland's wildness.

Here we are at Easter Tarr Farmhouse (soon to be known as 'Bonnie Braes") - comfortable beds, comfortable wing-back chairs, wonderful hosts!

I met a very nice friend!  The Yank was trying to get a view from the window of our room - of course she did get the right view this time - ME!

We explored Inchmahome Priory - built on an island in the Lake of Menteith approximately1238.

The Yank wasn't sure if she should take MY photograph in the Priory, but her good sense took over when I told her History would come alive with ME in a Priory!  "LOCH NESS MONSTER sighted at Inchmahome Priory!"

What a headline!

What a better headline!  "LOCH NESS MONSTER photographed with a beautiful friendly bar maid at the 'Lion and Unicorn Hotel and Restaurant' in Thornhill."  We meant to go back there for another great meal with excellent service, but the Yank's wanderings never took us back.

Here I am outside the 'Lion and Unicorn" with MY Pint!

We have now crossed over the border to England.  I feel unsettled going to England, so far from my home in MY Loch.  We are close to the town of Greenfield.  I am making friends with Sylvia's garden friends  - Sylvia is the Yank's Husband's Niece, and Alan is her husband.

This is Sylvia's and Alan's cottage near Dovestone Reservoir.  They are going to be moving to Mossley within the next few weeks.

Sylvia was honored to have a photo with ME at The Clarence Pub in Greenfield.  Unfortunately for Alan, he was painting their new home in Mossley, and the Yank forgot to get photos of us together!  What a twit!

I have decided I like to travel, and here I am trying to convince the Yank to take ME with her to Texas!

I especially want to meet Kathy, and maybe someday I can show her MY Loch and MY beautiful Scotland.

I can't wait to see the headline:

"Loch Ness Monster Sightings in San Antonio Area!"

The Yank said this Tabblo is dedicated to Kathy.

With Love, NESSIE

What a cool way to chronicle your trip to Scotland! It was very entertaining and whetted my appetite for a trip to that part of the world. Since Nessie is already taken, what other symbols are there? A pint, maybe? Thanks for sharing your journal and well done, my friend.
