Harmandir Sahib (the House of God) - Amritsar India

The Harmandir Sahib, also known as "the Golden Temple" in Amritsar (west India).

It is the mother temple for Sikhism, the world's FIFTH largest organized religion with 25 million devotees.

Anyone can come here and worship "the one God" and eat for free with the community.

The word 'Sikh' in the Punjabi language means 'disciple', Sikhs are the disciples of God who follow the writings and teachings of the Ten Sikh Gurus.

In India, where Hinduism and Islam are the two major religions, Sikhs claim to be neither.

"We neither are Hindus nor Muslims; Our body and life belong to the One Supreme Being who alone is both Ram and Allah for us."

Neutrality, however, does not always bring peace.

The Sikh temple has been ravaged in the past by the Afghans, the Mughals and the Hindu army.

And the Sikhs took their REVENGE each time.

Beautiful and telling shots. Thank you for the lesson in the religion. I did not know there was another religion in India. I will remember this lesson.

This temple is a wonder. Wish I had visited it when I was in India, but this area was in conflict by that time, and I had to change my plans. Thanks for the tour!
