This burial mound is round.

The burial mounds are surrounded by rice fields -- the view probably looked similar in ancient times.

Workshops are open to the public to try their hand at various crafts such as magatama-bead-making or pottery-making at the Sakitama HIstorical Burial Mound Museum.

(The diagram on the left shows the structure of the tomb, characteristic of tombs built for rulers in the latter half of the 6th century.)

The horse was the warrior's most valued belonging.

 

Sword ornaments, gold magatama beads, bronze bowls, gold and copper horse trappings, horse helmets and decorated ironware were excavated from the Shougunyama tumulus, resting place of the fourth generation of rulers. Some of these ornaments, such as the horse helmets show a connection to the southern part of the Korean peninsula.
