"The Dutch Mountain"

Of the Dutch mountains

In the Dutch mountains

I lost a button of my shirt today

It fell on the ground and it was rolling away

Like a trail leading me back

To the Dutch mountains

To the Dutch mountains

[Mountains]

I met a miller on the back of a cow

He was looking for the wind but he didn't know how

I said: “Follow the cloud that looks like a sheep”

In the Dutch mountains

In the Dutch mountains

In the Dutch mountains

Mountains

Mountains

Mountains

Buildings

For more information about the afsluitdijk follow the link;

The clip of the song;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2YxNx46yTM

The monument on the Afsluitdijk, made by Hildo Krop, carries the text:

“Een volk dat leeft bouwt aan zijn toekomst. ( A people that live, build for their future ) “

It would not be until September 25, 1933, that the Afsluitdijk was officially opened, with a monument designed by architect Dudok marking the spot where the dike had been closed. The amount of material used is estimated at 23 million m³ of sand and 13.5 million m³ of till and over the years an average of around four to five thousand workers were involved with the construction every day, relieving some of the unemployment following the Great Depression.

"The Dutch mountain" is a song of the Nits.

( There is a story that says that "the Dutch mountain"

is a metaphore for the duch dikes?)

I was born in the valley of bricks

Where the river runs high above the rooftops

I was waiting for the cars coming home late at night

From the Dutch mountains

I was standing in the valley of rock

Up to my belly in an early fog

I was looking for the road

To a green painted house

In the Dutch mountains

In the Dutch mountains

[Mountains]

I met a woman in the valley of stone

She was painting roses

On the walls of her home

And the moon is a coin

With the head of the queen

What is wrong with "tabblo".? It cost me 4 evenings/10 hours to make this tabblo.! And meanwhile considerably frustrated that it goes this way. The second day all the shots tha i had uploaded where gone, and moving 1 photo sometimes took over 15 minutes.

Gerard, I am sorry that it took so long to complete what with tabblo's little problems, some not so little. Nevertheless it is a superb tabblo... lots of interesting information and great photos. Thank you!! I, too, have had some tabblo problems of a different kind recently. See my latest tabblos.

As the old saying goes, God made the Man but the Dutch people made the land, this is a very good tribute to those who worked so hard for it. Thanks for sharing.

Very interesting!!! The perspective on the 1st photo is outstanding... I don't know if the stature is 6' tall or 60' tall... I love it... I also love the green boat & the stairwell...
I hope the Tabblo staff reads of your problems & frustration... It is happening to all of us... SAD!!!

Gerard--outstanding tabblo. Thanks for all the wonderful photos and history. Love that first shot.

Yes, Tabblo is frustrating at times. We are all hoping the Tabblo staff will quickly address the many problems the site is having. It seems as though they fix one and more pop up.
