Giant Springs State Park

Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery member Captain William Clark first discovered the springs on June 18, 1805.  Many fur traders found the area perfect for living and the game plentiful. Water seeps into the ground southeast of Great Falls in the Little Belt Mountains where the Madison Limestone formation is exposed at the land surface. It takes less than 50 years for water to flow from the Little Belt Mountains to the Giant spring’s area where the water emerges from the ground at a constant 54 degrees, all year long.  In 1970 Giant Springs Park was transferred from the City of Great Falls to the State of Montana and became Giant Springs State Park.
