A Fall Cruise on the Merrimack River

Looking for dinner

Sunday, October 12

The last boat ride of the year

A gorgeous and peaceful fall day

Beautiful colors, such a show!

Most boaters have gone

No traffic or noise

or drunken idiots in speedboats

Practically have the river to ourselves

Wish it could be like this the rest of the year!

Taking a rest

Empty docks

Maudsley Park

Deer Island

Enjoying the day

Beautiful homes in Amesbury

Someone's little slice of heaven

Gorgeous gardens

Rt. 95 runs from Maine to Florida

The Rocks Village Bridge - our rickety link between Merrimac & West Newbury

Deer Island & the Chain Bridge beyond Rt. 95

Gulls at sunset

The Old Lowell's Boat Shop in Amesbury

Low tide

New England's weather is so fickle - love it or hate it

All too soon this perfect weather will end

Giving way to endless snow and mud and rain

Eventually spring will return -- usually sometime in June

and then 6 weeks of summer (if we're lucky)

and another beautiful fall

"....and so it goes* "

* Kurt Vonnegut 1922 - 2007

Editor's Note:  It's damn hard to take pictures on a boat!

Before the cruise...

The bluefish were running

and my handsome husband and son

caught some whoppers!

Thanks for pointing out the smudge -- I was kind of hoping nobody would notice! Well, like I said, it's not very easy keeping the camera steady on a boat, so I'm just glad that they're not all fuzzy. Glad you all enjoyed the scenes. I really enjoyed the day.
