The Blue Mosque, Istanbul

The Blue Mosque is so named for the blue Iznik tilework that is found throughout the interior of the mosque.

The Sultan Ahmed Mosque is as it is often referred to in Istanbul taking its name from the Sultan Ahmed I who commissioned the building. It was built between 1609 and 1616.

The Mosque had 6 minarets when normally they would number 1,2 or 4, the same number as the Great Mosque in Mecca. This was deemed as sacrilegious and so a 7th smaller minaret was added.

God made out of water every living thing

God loves those who go out and work

Great set. That first shot of the mosque through the fountains is almost Disneyesque.
