Augusta, Georgia - the good things

county fair, harvest festivals, and 4th of July fireworks

outdoor recreation areas (this one, protected by the land trust, is slated to receive a 2 1/2 mile trail loop around the pond in 2009)

interesting architecture

downtown Augusta - tree-lined streets, local shops, restaurants, and funky loft apartments

the Riverwalk and ampetheatre along the Savannah River is a great place for outdoor concerts and lunchtime walks

more funky architecture, lots of texture

christmastime in augusta, reflecting in a downtown fountain

cultural festivals, art galleries, and golf keep the calendar full

there's nothing like jumping into a cool, clear lake on a hot summer day

the beach is always a great spot, even in the winter

the city's finally reclaiming its history and rehabbing its architectural treasures (like this 1920s art deco theatre in the heart of downtown)

the entire city's water supply is treated through natural wetlands that double as a beautiful park for passive recreation

acres and acres of sunflowers... 'nough said

the Savannah River wilderness flows around the city

downtown living...

kayking the wild Savannah River

waterfalls along the Augusta Canal Recreational Trail, and jellyfish from the GA Aquarium

thanks y'all. i'm certainly not a southern native, but i have been able to find the beauty and joy here. it's a neat little spot that i wouldn't have otherwise discovered or had the opportunity to get to know. i hope you find your way here one day too - even if just for a quick visit or to see the golf tourney.
