Civil War Days at Dollengar Farm, 2008. In Camp.
We Americans love to rehash our history and one of the ways we do it is by re-enacting famous battles. Civil War re-enacting is one of the more popular, though I know they also do the American Revolution and some WWII battles. I haven't gotten the chance to see either of those yet. A huge re-enactment takes place at Gettysburg every year. In fact, the scene at Gettysburg in movie "Gettysburg" was shot using re-enactors. Re-enactors were also used for the movie "Gods and Generals".
These guys take their job seriously. They are retelling history and they make sure they get it right. They dress completely in period costume, they know their characters story inside out. The majority of re-enactors "camp" at the battlefield the entire weekend it's taking place. They cook over campfires and they sleep on straw. They are all truely living historians. |
