A beautiful little church. Nice light & shadow. And the single flower in the foreground of the last shot is striking.

the floorboards of the church are incredibly wide. they must have been taken from immense trees. nice to see the photo of your mom in this set.

MIKE & AKE: I'm trying to deal with light & shadows, to balance them, but it's hard to succeed in this field. And it's fundamental when one photographs churches.

MIRELLA: The last shot is darker than I would like it to be, but it was about 6 pm and I preferred not to use photoshop to make it clear.

SHIRL: This church is very old, built when huge trees were still available. I'm glad you recognized my Mom (she is with her cousin Ofélia, in that pic). She loves this church, it reminds her of her childhood, and she has lots of stories to tell about its angels, statues, bells...

Wonderful shots !!!

when they built the church, i'm sure the construction was well to todays construction. that's why so many of these old structures are still standing. The plastic chairs in the bottom right corner of #7 are a great contrast to the church.

Hi Eduardo,
I am not a religious person but, I find old churches are amazing places in terms of lighting and symmetry. This church is a Mecca (pardon the pun)for potentially great photography with it's side aisles and access to the upper aisles. Those windows are great on the upper floor and you have made good use of them in the portrait. As is always the case, the lower floor windows are just too high for anything other than dust laden shafts of light. I would be waiting for the cleaner to pass through with a stiff brush to capture that atmosphere. Just imagine how moody it would look.
As to you dilemma with exposures at windows in bright sunlight, I will presume you are using a tripod in this church for these impressive shots!? or the lighting is so good you can use high ISO and handhold you camera. If I'm correct with the tripod, then you simple take two exposures at the window- one for the highlights and one for the shadows (even with people included) using the tripod ideally and layer (overlay)them in Photoshop. If you haven't got PS but understand my method then email me the two exposures and I will set you on you way with merging the critical areas together. You will be guaranteed a full dynamic range of shadow and highlights and I will look forward to seeing the result. If you are totally at a loss to what I am suggesting then I will prepare a sample for you over the next few days.
My favourites are #8 & #9 because you have chosen an excellent POV, which in turn has attracted much attention to those wide floor boards. Another suggestion is to practice my dynamic range method from the bell tower with full DOF and lets see what we can achieve. Nice Tabblo Nice lighting and Nice POV's. Mike.

ROBBI, DAVID, ROBERT, IRA & DOREEN: Thank you a lot for your comments. I'm glad you liked these images of an old, modest church that means a lot to me and to my family.

LINDA: I considered the idea of removing those plastic chairs, but then I thought nobody would notice them. Now I see I shouldn't be so lazy...

ENALDO: I still have to learn how to balance the light (pic #2 is clearer than I wanted it to be), but I'm really enjoying my new improved skills...

MIKE: I'm not a religious person, either, maybe that's why I have a different approach to churches. I'm usually more interested in the atmosphere, textures, constrasts, lighting. I used a tripod for pics #1 and #7, and put my cam on the floor for #2. Used high ISO (400) for all the others, so I could handhold the cam. Thank you A LOT for the tip of double exposure - I know some Photoshop, but never played with layers. Some of the pics I took were a disaster because of the wonderful light coming from the outside, and the magnificent shadows inside... I simply didn't know how to manage both situations. Send me your mail, please, and I will forward you some images (maybe you can help me recover them). The bell tower is one pic I would discharge (because of the "white" window and the "black" roof), but maybe there's hope for it!

I like all your old quaint small little churches tabblos. If I lived near churches like that, I'd probably wuold go to church! I feel the "peace" just lookin' at yours pics. why do we always have to explain that we are "not religious" like its some kind of disease. OK thinkin out loud again, oops.
The last pic is my fave: the delicate flower, totally sharp and in focus. the church in the background, blurry. bwana Edu.

I'm glad you didn't remove the chairs. The church looks timeless. But the chairs tell us the photographer is contemporary.

Great shots of the statues; I'm amazed that I don't see any shadows on the back wall, which is always a disappointment when that happens with me; Nice work. I love the shots of the hallway, of the sunlight and the shadow. :)
