LEGO World Wonder

We recently visited the SEE Science Center to see what is billed as the "largest permanent LEGO installation ... in the world".  It is a three million piece replica of Manchester's Amoskeag Mill circa 1915.  Since the SEE Science Center itself is located in one of the old Amoskeag mill buildings, this is a great opportunity experience history "first hand".

The LEGO replica is impressive both because of the size of the model and it's hundreds of small details.  It includes an amusement park, a busy rail-yard, a farmer's market, a scene showing the mill-workers leaving for the day, and several authentic row houses for the workers.

One of my favorite details is the reproduction of a famous photo of the world's largest American flag originally manufactured at the Amoskeag mill and done here all in LEGOs.  If you keep your eyes peeled, you may even witness a bank robbery.

By the way, while the LEGO replica was the main draw for us, the SEE Science Center has plenty of other attractions.  It has several hands-on exhibits for exploring different topics in science.  It's a great place to visit for kids of all ages.
