Paris: Musee d'Orangerie, Fat Tire Bike Tour's Night Tour

It started to sprinkle as we continued our walking trip by strolling from the Arc d’Triomphe down the Champs Elysees and having lunch at a fancy restaurant called McDonald’s.   We continued on towards the Place de la Concorde, walking through Tuileries gardens to the Musee d’Orangerie to see Monet’s Water Lilies.

We rode to the Louvre  and pedaled through its courtyards surrounded by its  softly lit buildings while the sounds of a street performer’s clarinet echoed around us.

As we looked at the Louvre’s pyramid the rain picked up and we all struggled into our rain gear.

At the end of the boat ride we climbed back on our bikes, gathered for some final comments and returned to the FTBT office.   We all REALLY loved the bike tour.

After a rest back at our hotel we took ANOTHER Fat Tire Bike Tour – their Night Tour.  Again, we met at the Eiffel Tower, walked to the FTBT office but this time got to wear stylish orange reflective vests!  31 riders and our two guides set out through the streets of Paris stopping at some sites to learn about them, including riding near our hotel in the Latin Quarter.

Coasting through the streets of Paris as night fell was magical!  We stopped to look at Notre Dame and rode over to Île Saint-Louis for delicious ice cream.

Then, at sometimes breakneck speed, we rode up and down sidewalks, on gravel walkways, down wide streets and finally reached the Seine.  We quickly hopped off and locked up our bikes and then ran onto a boat for a cruise in the rain.  Everyone went up onto the top deck and we passed under bridges, saw the Eiffel Tower twinkling – it was beautiful.
