NOT GIVING UP

On Saturday November 15, 2008 25,000 protesters for Equality  began their march at 10:30 AM in San Diego as well in 300 cities across the US and in other countries. This is from the result of California's elections overturning the State's Supreme Court rulling of allowing Gays and Lesbians to marry. The other side doesn't get it, claiming that we should move on, get over it, the voters voted and we should accept this outcome. Yet, the other side didn't get anything taken away from them. We're asking for our Equal Rights back. Plus anyway, shouldn't marriage be a choice and not a vote?

I love the sign that says: Equal rights for all; special privileges for none - Thomas Jefferson. That sums it up quite nicely for me.

Recently I've had a discussion with someone about hope. Their point being that hope is inactive, and doesn't change anything. I disagreed, my point being that hope is a catalyst, and after seeing this tabblo I feel that my opinion has been confirmed. This inspires hope, and that hope inspires more action, both feeding the other, until equality and justice is gained. Giving up is not an option! Way to go Jude!
... I feel a WOOT coming on, and I don't even know what that word means!

Great tabblo! I love the format, the layout and the colour! :)

Equal rights for all; special privileges for none - Thomas Jefferson: This is beautiful, a freedom of choice

Bravo... beautiful tabblo!!
Do you suppose "they" fear gay marriage because so many succeed & last as opposed to the majority of heterosexual marriages that fail??

Maybe that fancy building with the columns should be renamed the Hall of INJUSTICE. Who are these faceless beaurocrats; these sour, gray men & women that use their limited power like a sword to attack freedom? There political might will be subdued by what is right.

Great Tab with a great message.I like the sign that said that nothing in this world is more dangerous than ignorance and conscience stupidity. Also like the Thomas Jefferson sing.Dar is right about hope.I can only imagine true freedom to love whom we want with the legal rights that goes with this.

Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others.

unfortunately, the rainbow coalition has a lot of work to do. hopefully, we can finally get past our hang-ups about sexual orientation and just love people like God does...

It really gets me to see kids being used for political purposes. Whether it's this or something else. Leave the kids out of it. I'm one of those hoping the ban is not overturned.
AliDar said at 10:59 p.m. on Nov 17, 2008:
The children where there because they were with their Mom's or their Dads. They weren't being used. They were being loved.

God loves us all......warts, pimples, stupidity, ignorance, prejudice.....we all have the right to be happy....and nobody is forcing anyone's lifestyle here....:)people would (i HOPE ) feel differently if a member of their family was gay....love is love

Yes, Debra, love is love, our children are our children anyway, but for them living in an old world is not so easy... Marchons, marchons......says the french Marseillese, it's not a political purpose, it's a march for freedom........

There are many feelings tied to this issue, regardless of which side of the idealogical fence you are on. I particularly like some of the signs which speak to the confusion, anger, impatience, hope, humor, and struggle of the marchers. Great work covering this event and Congratulations to the Weekly Contest Winner!

Congrats on winning. Very good coverage and presentation. My country is changing quicker than I can capture it....glad we have fine shooters like yourself to help me out. Personally I'd like the word "Marriage" to continue to describe the union of one man and one woman. Biblical, traditional, and pretty much the norm around the world. Call me old fashioned, but spare me the bigot tag please. Again nice job here Jude.

JuDeck said at 10:48 a.m. on Nov 22, 2008:
Thanks again to Tabblo and to everyone who's visited. I know that this is a very passionate social matter that's being presented. It's difficult to tell you my disappointment in how much authority the majority has over a minority. I can understand the "old fashion" views too along with the religious views, the fact is a marriage license is a state issued document. So I'll keep on going to marches and pray that they remain peaceful, I'll keep writing to the politicians to encourage them to do the right thing and not pressed by the threats of losing their jobs. I'll continue to hope too that we all can become better aligned in equality as a human race. The world is indeed changing, I'm crossing my fingers that California can be added onto the growing list of places that have gender neutral marriage laws......the Netherlands/Holland 2001, Belgium 2003, Massachusetts, USA, 2004, Canada 2005, Spain 2005, South Africa 2006, Connecticut 2008 and Norway in 2009. All Good Things, Jude
AliDar said at 6:03 p.m. on Nov 23, 2008:
The way I understand it is that the traditions of marriage are love, fidelity, support, making a life together, and a commitment for life to those values, and to the person you love. Yes, many think that those values are old fashioned, but there are many same sex couples that share them, and believe that marriage is the ultimate expression of love and commitment. How can it be that those who oppose the inclusion of same sex couples in the definition of marriage believe that it is a threat to what they all ready have? The very principles they believe in are being regarded with such high esteem by those who wish to be included in that definition, that they are wanting the right to apply those values to their own lives, and be recognized for it. That is not a threat, that's a tipping of the hat!

Btw Jude, you're not just crossing your fingers, you are adding your efforts towards making that change happen, so to you, I also tip my cap. :)

As someone who is straight, grew up in a very conservative place, has many conservative friends, loves fish and fishing, let me respond to what Fishaholic wrote about children being " used ". Children are often "used "in conservative events. How many times have you seen Bush hold or at least try to hold a baby or child. That any kind of political event would have a bunch of children in it should not be such a surprise .
JuDeck said at 5:33 p.m. on Jan 15, 2009:
good point Charles, thank you for stopping in.
