A wander down Whitehall

A wander down Whitehall starts at Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column.

The National Gallery is at the far side of Trafalgar Square

Admiralty Arch, the entrance to The Mall leading to Buckingham Palace

The day was wet,and gloomy and nearing its end as I wandered along Whitehall with my little point and shoot camera.

Suddenly what had appeared as grey and gloomy became bright and red!

A couple of very old London buses

Horse Guards

Downing Street. Very heavily guarded.

The Cenotaph

The women of WW II

Montgomery

Union Jack flying over several buildings

The London Eye

At the other end of Whitehall are the Houses of Parliament

Houses of Parliament

Big Ben

Anti-war protest situated directly opposite the Parliament building. Freedom of speech in action!

Perfect travel! I very much like severe classical architecture. And soft colours. Especially brightly looks red on this light grey background. Remarkable contrast.

This is a trip down memory lane for me - once upon a time I lived in London and never tired of playing tourist in my own home town. Lots of great shots highlighted by the reds of the buses, the telephone kiosks, the taxicabs, police cars - I don't remember red cabs. I do remember the days when one could wander down Downing Street and stand in front of #10 - goodness, I am so old! I share your joy in discovering what a good point and shoot can do in adverse conditions - very well done, Celia!

I love London, I was there ten months....once upon a time! I lived near the Albert Hall. Magical city !!!!Thanks for letting me remember. Ciao and conratulations.

Thanks Mikalis.
For those who don't know, Red Ken was the previous Lord Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone. He was knicknamed Red Ken for his far left political views.
Ira thank you for your lovely comment.
Eric, London is an amazing city, I hope you get to visit.
Thanks Pat and thank you Noreen so glad you enjoyed this. The coloured taxi cabs were new to me as well!

Mirella thank you, I used to queue regularly outside the Albert Hall during the Prom season many years ago!

A lot of work Chilla and a well deserved TOD. I have passed through and over London soooo many times and never taken the time to visit it. I guess I'm a country bumpkin, now that I have lived outside Dublin city for over 30 years. I would like to see the highlights of this city some day. You have given me another reminder of what I have neglected. Thank You! Mike.

It seems that you did not have much sun. The different cars and the two-store buses are like the Matchbox models...LOL. Much more security on the streets, after the terrible terrorist attacks. Veterans Day. Downing Street. The Wheel. Celia, thanks for taking us for a visit to the heart of London!

Thanks Sue and Loes, The weather was very poor for photography and then I saw red and it all looked different!
Thanks Mike, Sheila and James, hope you get to see London one day!
Thank you Fabio, the day was very dull and overcast and spitting with rain, it was also nearing dusk so the light was very poor but there was so much to see in a very short walk!
Thanks Annelies, I wanted to buy those flipflops for my tabblo friends so I took a picture instead!!!!
