Wat Arun

From wiki: The outstanding feature of Wat Arun is its central prang (Khmer-style tower). It may be named "Temple of the Dawn" because the first light of morning reflects off the surface of the temple with a pearly iridescence. Steep steps lead to the two terraces. The height is reported by different sources as between 66,80 m and 86 m. The corners are surrounded by 4 smaller satellite prangs. The prangs are decorated by seashells and bits of porcelain which had previously been used as ballast by boats coming to Bangkok from China.

Magaling, JANE! This temple is magnificent (I wonder if Gaudí had visited it...), and I'm glad to notice you are still travelling a lot.

Thanks all! :) I'm grateful for this TOD *smiles*

Edu: Sometimes work entails a lot of traveling and as much as possible I try to see more than the airport, hotel or conference venue. I also thought of Gaudi when I was staring at the temple. I didn't climb up but my mind was spinning from the smorgasbord of intricate details which were a bit unusual from the other temples.

Clydo: Reading your comment made me realize that you're now based in Bangkok. Sayang. This temple maybe not that popular but the Grand Palace and the other temples were closed for the Princess's funeral rites so this was the only open one across Chao Phraya. We just had a quick cruise then about 30-minutes to see Wat Arun then back to the conference for the closing ceremony and took the midnight flight back to Tokyo. Next time I hope we'll have more free time so I can visit more touristy places...

I would be stuck there for hours looking at every detail, it's very colorful for a temple, yes there's of Gaudi there, also Moroccan I find. It's a magnificent piece of art. Thx for wandering out of the duty free shops for us! :)
