More than a dream in Rio

Rio de Janeiro, December 2nd 2008, around 5 pm

It's more than the shining eye

More than the steaming green

More than the hidden hills

More than the concrete Christ

More than a distant land

Over a shining sea

(James Taylor, "Only a dream in Rio")

Nice ... I bet sunrise - light pictures of that place would be a KO.

Rio definitely on my places to visit list :)

You are welcome anytime, LUCAS (it's your real name, right?).

pic #2 is fantastic.

uuups - Eduardo ...
WEIMAR said at 7:00 a.m. on Dec 3, 2008:
Golden Tuesday!
#2: good idea! way like waves, at the edge of water
Eduardo.affonso said at 7:12 a.m. on Dec 3, 2008:
ENALDO & HEIDI: I used, for the first time, a tool that allows changing the temperature of color, hence this warm, golden effect. The afternoon was cloudy, yet with a magnificent lighting.

JAMES: Our dreams are reciprocal - I'm always dreaming of Boracay, Mindanao, Luzon...

LUKAS: No problem for calling me "Eduardi", I had called you "Lucas"...
Leftofcenter said at 7:31 a.m. on Dec 3, 2008:
I thought I knew all of JT's songs, Ill have to download this one! I just love the photos of the Christ overlooking from way up high Rio and the bay. Its a very symbolic image to me.
Jigs said at 8:33 a.m. on Dec 3, 2008:
Through the magic of your photography, you turn Rio into a beautiful dreamland!
Chaitiamma said at 8:55 a.m. on Dec 3, 2008:
Beautiful Rio !!!
Eduardo.affonso said at 10:12 a.m. on Dec 3, 2008:
JIGS: You know this is my "boysen", and I never get tired of it. I don't turn Rio into a dreamland: it's already a dream, turned into a nightmare through the incompetence of those who were supposed to take care of it.

ANNELIES: Though I'm not particularly fond of James Taylor, I like the tenderness of this song. The Christ on top of Corcovado Hill is a very symbolic image to me, too.

DAVID: That's why it's also known(in Brazil, at least) as "the wonderful city".
Direktone said at 10:13 a.m. on Dec 3, 2008:
well deserved TOD :)

Thank you, ERIC & LUKAS!
Shenresi said at 10:45 a.m. on Dec 3, 2008:
really much more than a dream, those perfect shots and views, Eduardo!!!
Pkeener said at 10:46 a.m. on Dec 3, 2008:
nice, short, sweet set. I am thinking of Jobim now. congrats on TOD and excellent use of back light. and the framing of #4 is my favorite.
Eduardo.affonso said at 11:15 a.m. on Dec 3, 2008:
CELIA & ANGELA: It was cloudy yesterday (it's rainny season here) and the light was not exuberant as usual, but I agree it aded that "dreamy" quality to the pics.

PAM: I tried to use the "rule of thirds" (?) in this pic (#4) but it didn't work. My favorite in this set is #2 (vertical one). I was going to use some quote by Jobim, but then I remembered this old song by James Taylor, and it gave me the title I needed.

Congratulations on TOD! Excellent!
Lifequest22 said at 11:32 a.m. on Dec 3, 2008:
Edu--Dreamie shots. Rio is so photogenic--the sea in the foreground, the city structures and then the mountains in the background. I find it fascinating and you photos capture it all so well.

Congratulations on TOD.
Chiloedream said at 11:34 a.m. on Dec 3, 2008:
SUPERBE, mention spéciale pour la 2 : j'aimerais fouler ce paseo maritime au pied du fabuleux Christ, dans la belle lumière de l'après-midi. 5 heures, c'est une belle heure pour capturer de grandes images... Salut mon ami. Thierry-chiloedream.

I love the golden bricks, lovely movement :)
Abking said at 11:45 p.m. on Dec 3, 2008:
Dreamy photos Eduardo. You couldn't find a more magnificent placement for the Jesus statue than that mountain top. I also like the vertical #2, the inclusion of the tile gives an interesting foreground pattern, but then, the other shoots show the other angles and aspects-that's why it's a good tabblo. Just as people need multiple avatars, places need multiple views.
WEIMAR said at 2:09 a.m. on Dec 4, 2008:
Eduardo, how are the original Pics without special editing?

because I always take photos analogue, without any digital editing ;-)
Eduardo.affonso said at 9:00 a.m. on Dec 4, 2008:
Thank you, guys! PAT, IRA, RITA, ROBERT, JORMA, SUE, TEO... I probably was sort of a tour guide in a former life, so I still enjoy showing beautiful places to interesting people :)

LINDA: Rio is certainly an unique city, with these huge mountains & native forests by the sea. The city itself is just fine, but the scenery is astonishing, as you can see.

THIERRY: You know you are welcome anytime, and I would like very much to take you (and your magic cam) for a walk around the bay, by the sea, up Corcovado Hill, Sugar Loaf... I wouldn't miss it, mon frère!

DEBBIE: This kind of pavement is typical of Rio (we call it "portuguese stone"), and you'll find it in many different patterns all over the city.

ALLAN: The placement of this statue on top of Corcovado Hill was very controversial, because of its religious meaning (Brazil is supposed to be a secular country, with no official religion). Now it's part of the landscape, and it's hard to imagine Corcovado without it. Before I found Tabblo, I used to post my photos on Phlog, and, inspired by my dear Pinoy friend Jigs Javier, I took 100 photos of this statue. I'm sure I could take 1,000 pics without getting tired of it.

HEIDI: I don't know how the original pics would look like, but there wouldn't be much difference. I simply settled my cam to operate with a little higher color temperature (because it was cloudy that day, so I wanted to compensate it). I will try to make some more photos with and without this compensation, and then I tell you (or show you) the difference. By the way, I do miss my analogue photos... Haven't used my old Praktica for a long time.

Snif...¿No te gustó mi comment...?
Eduardo.affonso said at 5:22 p.m. on Dec 4, 2008:
LILIANA: Ia responder ao seu comentário separadamente, e acabei deixando pra depois. Sorry. Certas paisagens, como esta, já se tornaram mesmo tão lugar-comum que fica difícil (ou, pelo menos, exige um certo talento) vê-las por um novo ângulo. Desta série, a única foto que realmente me agradou foi essa vertical, com a calçada portuguesa em primeiro plano. Mas não resisti e postei as outras tb...

MIRELLA: Rio has two great symbols: Corcovado Hill (with the statue of Christ) and the Sugar Loaf. Both are very beautiful, and I don't think I will ever get tired of them.

ROBBI: It would be great if we could add songs to our tabs, so you would see the pics with a soundtrack. I sent this suggestion to Tabblo.com, hope they will find a way to arrange this. James Taylor recorded this song a long time ago, but it's not as popular as his main hits. Had you ever listened to it before?
Liliana said at 6:09 p.m. on Dec 4, 2008:
¡Coincidimos en la elección, entonces! No fue una crítica, siempre es bueno rever "viejos amigos"...
Rita.Mandarino said at 8:29 p.m. on Dec 4, 2008:
Lindas Edu, essa luz dourada do fim de tarde é tudo. Esse tabblo poderia se chamar Golden Rio. Muito bonitas suas fotos , aliás sua produção de tabblos está excelente.
Pkeener said at 8:24 a.m. on Dec 5, 2008:
re #4. sometimes rules are made to be broken.
Pkeener said at 8:25 a.m. on Dec 5, 2008:
;)
Eduardo.affonso said at 10:16 a.m. on Dec 5, 2008:

PAM: Even dogmas are made to be broken, I guess...

Dream land and dream photos! Stunning tabblo my friend!
L810th said at 5:26 p.m. on Dec 5, 2008:
I love everything about #2 and it is always my preferred choice of lighting. The composition works well as a square format or even with a cropped foreground. It has all the great elements of content in perfect balance. Your choice of tone is very natural with this lighting and does not look at all contrived or forced. Congratulation on TOD Eduardo! Mike.

I love this tabblo so much Eduardo~ somehow I missed it. This is is what I do to hear the music along with the tabblo: Click on the song you have a link to and then open up a new tab for your tabblo again...the music plays and you view your pictures and you get THE FULL EFFECT~~~ Sublime way to enjoy tabblo magic~~~ ;^)

RHONDA - Thank you so much! I wish everybody could do what you did, and enjoy these images with a nice soundtrack.

DVLEIZ - Thank you, and welcome to my tabblos.

MIKE - I really appreciate what you said. It is always nice to have you commenting about my work.

EDITE - Blame it on Rio!
Swedfinn said at 11:23 a.m. on Oct 4, 2009:
There is "it" in the images, maybe because you live there. I like postcards, too, but one viewing of them tells all about it. Your images must to be viewed twice.
Eduardo.affonso said at 11:35 a.m. on Oct 4, 2009:
Thanks for this interesting comment, JORMA. I will think twice before accepting it, because it's such a great compliment...
