Lettuce Lake Park II

Tampa, Florida

Lettuce Lake Park

2008

Hurrah, Hurrah for Florida with her mild congenial clime,

Where the balmy air is sighing, and all nature is sublime,

Where the mocking birds are singing 'mid the flower's sweet perfume

And the orange blossoms vieing with the roses in their bloom.

Wow, Linda, this is memorable, this tabblo. I look forward to coming back when I have some time to spend studying your amazing shots, not to mention the verse. A fav for sure...
AliDar said at 6:24 p.m. on Dec 8, 2008:
The words you've included with your photos really stir up a lot of mixed emotions - the beauty, the pride in it all, and then the angry sadness for seeing it being destroyed bit by bit. ... The whole tabblo reads just like the the verse by Bobby Hicks. ... And I believe you, you are Florida. I love the moss on the restricted area sign, and your depth of field in all the shots of the shrubs and thorns and that shot of the bushes with the light spots keeps drawing me back to it. What I really like the best about those photos is that they aren't your average pretty flower shots with the bokeh behind, but they are very beautiful, maybe more so because it wasn't expected. :)

Linda, you've done it again, I look at all your Tablos and I'm amazed that you continue to produce such quality work. Boy did we mess up not having you set up your powerpoint, oh well.
these scenes are breathtaking, they are both beautiful and sad at the same time. I guess it's true one way or another we will destroy this earth.

Your friend always, Marty

I feel like I was there! all the angles and the way you set your shots! I am really intrigued by all the stuff I am not used to seeing. Love the little sign with the clump of Spanish Moss, the last one with the moon is amazing. Your text placement is so perfect for pondering. just the right amount of nature sprinkled with some people... I want to come back again, and I will!

This is a wonderful collection of photos of our true Central Florida. The swamp is beautiful. Loved the Owl hiding in the tree. But didn't see an aligator.. =)

Amazing place and beautiful photos! Hope people take more care about places like this.
WEIMAR said at 2:25 a.m. on Dec 9, 2008:
Hi Linda, we need such places you show. Why the needles from the tree on last pic and some others soo brown? It looks not healthy. I don't know if I right.

I like #24 and #25....very impressionistic.

#7 would be better with more depth of field.
Mirella said at 2:35 a.m. on Dec 9, 2008:

Thank you everyone for visiting Florida through my photos and for your comments.

Florida is truely ecclectic--from the beaches to the tropical flavor to the wildlife and the wanton destruction of nature.

Annelies, I took these photos on Sunday of this week, so you are seeing a Florida winter.

Heidi--the brown tree is a Cypress and in winter it turns golden brown and sheds its needles. In spring it will become green again.

Dar, the words are Florida Folk music lyrics. The last song is a contemporary one written and song by Bobby Hicks, a Tampa native who passed away 6 months ago. He was an avid Florida environmentalist who hated seeing Florida devoured by the greedy developers.

Pam--the camera just couldn't stop itself from shooting from every angle. :)

Kay--we are lucky to live in central Florida where we have the beaches and what's left of the "Old Florida."

Allan--despite the terror of the developers, much of the beauty of Florida is still perserved. And the state--thanks to the Sierra Club and Audobon--is working on restoring the damage to the Everglades and Lake Okeechobee.

Farid--thanks for all the WOWs. :)

Great photos.Florida can have it's own beautiful Winter season.Instead of shoveling snow, its raking leaves. The Owl looks like to say,"ah shucks" but know it was really sleeping.A really nice capture of nature.

Cant believe you found an owl during the day....I cant count the number of times we walked the Great Swamp (in Jersey) looking for owls and never came across one. Lucky you! Love all the shots but esp, the owl, the bobber & line lost to a branch (my kind of fishing), and all the pieces of Fl nature you've captured here. Good work.
Lifequest22 said at 10:52 a.m. on Dec 11, 2008:
ANDRE--i know you can shoot anywhere :) ANGELA---thank you. JUDE---the poor guy was sleeping . Yeah--we were lucky to spot him. Thanks for stopping by.

I'm always in support of the state purchasing land for preservation. I wish the developers would all leave. Deb, I've seen cows hit on the highways too. And all the armadillos.

Great shots of Florida in the raw, away from Mouse Town & the hustle & bustle of modern-day life. This is back to nature.......apart from the fishing line & bottle that remind us that nowhere is safe from litter louts.
