The Monastery of Saint George,Karydi

St George is the Patron Saint of Crete. This Monastery was once a large and active Monastery extending over a fairly large area. The little Church of Koimesis is part of the old Monastery and is surrounded by ruins although the church is still maintained. There is an ongoing attempt to renovate some of the old buildings within the monastery itself but it is a slow process. However, the work that is being carried out is very good and in keeping with the traditional buildings. This is a favourite place of ours and one we visit often. There is a great sense of Peace and Tranquility here.

I can understand why this is a favourite place, Celia. You have successfully captured the serenity, the peace. I can feel the warmth. Love the mix of sizes, the landscapes and closeups.

Beautiful photos, Celia, so many nice details: the arches, the two bells.... and a lot of sun. I love Greece. Grazie, ciao.

Celia, These are very nice pictures! And they convey peace and tranquility, too. The little church is elegant, while the old structures (arches) are still up and will remain solid for many many years. The vases with the flowers give a special touch to the place. In regard to the layout of the pictures, you did a fine job! Overall, what a way to start the new year - with light, peace, and hope! Thank you very much! Fabio

My favourite view is the last photo with it's snug view like a scene from the Bible or a cave dwelling view from a Tunisian Star Wars episode. They all look like film set locations for some epic Hollywood movie based on the stations of the cross. The close ups add a nice touch to the architecture and the greenery is rich and indicate a springtime visit. Great light that oozes with Aegean quality. Mike.
