Saulblum said at 8:43 a.m. on Jan 7, 2009: Very wintry! Where in Finland is this? Engaging set of photos. Looks like a fun way to pass the winter days. I especially like the sixth from the bottom.
YorkJodi said at 8:58 a.m. on Jan 7, 2009: What fun you had capturing the fun the kids were having... Great photos & layout...
Krisu said at 9:09 a.m. on Jan 7, 2009: Thank you, Mike and Mirella! Saul, took these photos yesterday here in the sleepy suburban area of Tampere, where we live. Tampere is about 170 km to north from Helsinki, if you look from the map and it's a big city in Finland with more than 200 000 inhabitants. :) The third largest city in Finland. Her is some more information, if you like: http://www.tampere.fi/english/tourism/ Actually if it's snowing like it did yesterday, we cannot skate on the lake any more, have to go to the smaller 'arenas' kept by city!
Krisu said at 9:12 a.m. on Jan 7, 2009: Thanks, Jodi! it was only -3°C yesterday even it was very windy. Today the temperature in the morning was -17°C, so no skating on the lake today. Anyway, boys went to school today after holidays. :)

Moabjeeper said at 7:27 p.m. on Jan 7, 2009: Too cold for me.
Leftofcenter said at 7:50 p.m. on Jan 7, 2009: skating on the lake, playing hockey, the red cheeks (and probably runny noses!) it's so... Finnish! (but also Canadian) hot chocolate afterwards?
Fabio_DL said at 9:01 p.m. on Jan 7, 2009: Kristina, I saw your tabblo in the morning, before going to work. Like tabblos from other friends, it is hard to wait until the evening to see the photos and layout. And I thought during the day about what I could write. I thought about red cheeks, movement, Canada, and hot chocolate in the end of the play. Amazingly, Annelies wrote the same things, but with a lot of grace. Maybe because she lives in Canada, I suppose, and I and my family lived there for several years, too. Your pictures are great! They transmit the speed on the ice, the cold, the noise of the blades, and all the fun! Thanks so much for another great tabblo! Fabio PS: Are you sure there were no Canadians playing hockey at the same time? Just teasing you...LOL Thanks again!
JuDeck said at 10:25 p.m. on Jan 7, 2009: i agree with Leftie...hot chocolate by the fireplace. So much fun on the ice and the fact of being able to walk on top of the swimming hole adds to the magic. Nice day.
Debdog said at 10:49 p.m. on Jan 7, 2009: OHHHHH this SO reminds me too of childhood days in Canada, skating on the frozen creek for MILES....we knew it was time to come home when out toes were frozen....and warn them with the hands, or in warm water...OUCH!!!!!!! the pain of the cold! LOL! I can hear the scrpaing of blades on ice, and feel the cold on my face! :) we played hockey too,,,,, girls and boys! :) my parents always gave us a new pair of skates evety Christmas! WHITE boots, and the figure skating blade :)
Gerardfotografeert said at 5:25 p.m. on Jan 8, 2009: Very nice tabblo, beautiful winter, ice skating kids and older people. Here in holland the people are "into the ice and skating" , great tabblo.
Krisu said at 2:33 a.m. on Jan 9, 2009: Thanks Den! David, I couldn't live if there was summer all the time. I love winter! Rhonda, Hurray to Grandma's socks, skates are very cold 'shoes' to wear! Thanks :D Merci, Thierry! Thank you, Doreen. It's been years without skating with me, too. Lost my skates in some move, but there are sales in every sport shop after Christmas and I really really need a new pair of skates. Is it Robert? I think if you put enough clothes on and button your coat tight, you'll survive. And enjoy! ;) My father, age 72, is a 'fanatic' fisherman and a hunter.( Not the only one in Finland, though) At the very moment lakes start to freeze in December/January, he puts his nose out and sences when the ice is strong enough to carry a man and he goes and sits on the ice for hours ice fishing!!!! never too cold!! Of course he (and the other hundreds of thousands) walks a lot too, if the fish doesn't bite he has to go to another spot and bore new holes. Every fall and spring there are also sad news because some people have drown when the ice was too thin. Very reckless to go to on ice if you don't know the lake and it's 'bad places' or if the spring has melted the ice too much. Leftie, The only runny nose seemed to be mine...haha! and YES, oh YES!!!! I MADE HOT CHOCOLATE afterwards and made warm soup later!! Very satisfying day, indeed. Fabio, thank you for your nice and warming words. Maybe there were Canadians on ice too, lots of people not shown in photos, so who knows... LOL Jude, You're so right, it's magical to skate and walk on top of the lake where you swim in summertime. Suberb day!!! Debbie, I knew you would have memories something like that, you Canadian you!! :D I also got new skates when I was a girl, the white ones with figure skating blades, as a Christmas present almost every year! Not if the old ones fit still, hahaha! Gerard, Thank you! Your reputation as a skating nation is world famous. :) I also know that there has been some Dutch canal skating championships that took place here in Finland because you had so warm that your canals didn't freeze.
Hhwind said at 7:54 a.m. on Jan 9, 2009: Wow these are great shots, just love to learn to skate looks like great fun
Pkeener said at 9:21 a.m. on Jan 10, 2009: oooh. I LOVE this one, Kris. Your choice of layout is perfect. It lends to the random closeups of the boots and feet and pucks. Perfect overcast Light. You have a stroy well told here, from the first 2 shots (what a face!) to the last two. wow.
Krisu said at 1:22 a.m. on Jan 21, 2009: Thanks, Teo! Skating IS fun. Loes, Thank you. Also from the invitation :) Pam, Thank you so much!
