Some colorful buildings late at night on our way to the Black Church. More on that a little later.... |

Not the first OR last of the big, "Hollywood"-style signs across the country, blaring out town names. |
Our second night in Romania was spent in Brasov, a gorgeous little town in the Carpathian Mountains. The old-town area we were staying in and exploring dated pretty far back - to the 1200's as an established town, although people have supposedly been living on this area of land for tens of thousands of years. We were told that the hotel we stayed in on the town square was originally built in the 1500's. |

You can see Luc scouting for bars up there ahead of me. Also, the arches way off in the distance are one of the main entrances to the old town area. |

Part of the view through my hotel room window. |

This was the other part of the view out my hotel window. The bright lights in the square are lighting a skating rink, which was playing loud, awesome music. But what really loomed over it all was the cold-looking, Black Church, the biggest Gothic church between Vienna and Istanbul. |

Zoomed in to get how cool that snow on the roof was. |

This was out later, getting some night shots of the church. And of course,we were also still on the hunt for a bar. |

At the end of that last street, you turn to the right and see this. |

We were so lucky to catch the church against the biggest full moon we've had in over a decade. |

It was pretty damn massive. |

A view of the church through my window in the morning. |

Another view out my window. The sun was trying to peek through, but never quite did. |

These chimney shots were out the back hall window just outside my room. |

This tall, thin chimney was my favorite. |

Down in the square just outside our hotel door. You can see the Brasov sign on the hill from earlier. |

The old town hall. |

Down the street just off the town square. The end of the street on the right is where we ended up finding just the right bar the night before. It was there that we discovered they have incredible hot chocolate in Romania - which goes great with a warm cognac. |

I liked this alley. |

Rope Street - one of the narrowest streets in Europe at 1.32 meters wide. |

One last view of the Black Church. |

Cool textures, and it's interesting to try to focus on either the reflection, or the plants and curtain that are visible in the window. |

Some appropriate graffiti for the Transylvania area... |

And then, we headed back out into the Carpathians for our next destination, leaving Brasov behind. |

But we took time to stop for a brief look back at it from above. There's the Black Church in the bottom left of frame. |

Check out how tall that smokestack is compared to the 15 or 20 story buildings in the foreground. It looked massive. |

Turning further towards the very outskirts of town. |

And finally, some gorgeous rolling hills that, to the right, lead away from Brasov and deeper into the Carpathian Mountains. |
