Redefin lies in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern west of Ludwigslust. It's one of the places, where you need a car, a chauffeur or an organized bus tour to get there. The next train station "Hagenow Land" is a couple of kilometres north. If you are going on a bike tour this is an option. But if you are going to enjoy the "Picknick with horses" on Landgestüt Redefin you might miss the last train.
The stud farm is famed far across the country borders for its high quality horse breeding and schooling. Each year on four Sundays in September they organize the "Stallion Parade" showing off the most magnificent horses.
In addition to this event they have added other highlites to their programme a couple of years ago. During summertime they take part in the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival of classical music offering a whole day in the countryside with a lunch-picknick on there meadows starting at 1:00 pm, a horse show beginning at 4:oo pm and ending in the evening with a concert in the riding hall. |

On the 9th August 2008 I went there for the third time accompanied by my Australian friend and one of my sisters, who had offered to drive. It was the most magnificent day I have spent there up to this day. The stallion show was gorgeous, but the concert of Gothenburg Symphonie Orchestra conducted by Gustavo Dudamel was outstanding. They played the Appalachean Symphonie of Coppland, a piece of Ravel and the Symphonie Phantastique of Berlioz, the latter absolutely true to its name. Every instrument group got a solo part in this work of art. Conductor and orchestra giving, taking and throwing tones on invisible threads playing from pianopianissimo to fortefortetissimo every nuance you can imagine in a tune. 2.5 hours concert, a completely spellbound audience and standing ovations till the last musician has disappeared into the changing room were the topping of a beautiful summerday.
The following photos of the day's stallion show were made by my sister. |
