Amur Tiger at the Racine Zoo

Many animals were off exhibit due to the cold, but here was a majestic beast who thrives in the cold weather

Hokey-pokey, anyone? You put your left paw in...

After rolling in the snow, he took a catnap

Does he look at us and see a meal?

Suddenly, he came to the windows and began swiping his enormous paws down the panes, as if trying to scratch the glass away and attack the startled folks on the other side

These were not friendly greetings and everyone was grateful for the barrier

But after a few strong slams, we all wondered how strong the barrier was

Perhaps he realized he couldn't get to the folks outside, because he seemed to shift gears to curiosity

And then the feline nature we all see in our domestic cats came out

We were all wishing we could actually rub his neck -- okay, maybe not

Up close and personal

If you visit the Racine Zoo in the winter, this fella is not only very active, he's very INTERactive with visitors, and it's an experience never to forget.

Terrific tiger shots. Without the glass, the onlookers would be cat food.
