Swell Of The Decade - South Florida

In early May of 2007 a low pressure system began to develop and strengthen off of the South East coast of the United States. - NASA MODIS Satellite

Surfers from all over the South East coast were anticipating a significant swell event after seeing the wave height and swell period models predicting massive wave heights with long period swells slamming the Florida coast line.

The day prior to this storm my new custom WRV quad fin surf board came in. Perfect timing for my South Florida trip!

First stop on my trip to South Florida was at Stuart Beach just north of Palm Beach County.

Waves were breaking so far out and the winds weren't quite right...

Conditions would be better farther down in South Florida so I headed south on I-95.

Juno Pier just south of Jupiter was my next stop to check the surf.

The swell was just too big for here to handle. It was breaking almost a half mile out or more with wave heights exceeding 15 ft  .

Farther south was the call, so I got back on I-95 and headed south.

Massive, perfect aqua blue waves pumped in all day. I thought I was dreaming at times because it was so good.

Delray Beach, FL was the next stop. PERFECT waves and manageable size!

This lady must of been wondering what was going on. "Waves NEVER are this big down in South Florida!"

Many couldn't make the paddle out. I was denied the first time but made it out on my second try.

I snapped a few shots before I paddled out. This was going to be an EPIC day.

A day of surf I and anyone who surfed it will ALWAYS remember!

Wave heights were up to double over head aka 10 foot. BIG for Florida standards.

Incredible size at times. Truly an Epic day.

Swell heights peaked around 16-18 feet at 17 seconds. Truly a significant swell and a rare one at that size.
