TEN BEST

Taken in Waterford, Connecticut in a tiny little observation shack just off the beach. My wife came out to join me as I took some shots of the beach and surrounding wetlands during a serious blizzard, and she was just trying to keep warm. You can see some of the snow coming in at an angle through the window.

I took this shot in Khao Sok national park in southern Thailand. The whole area was flooded years ago to create a reservoir, and all the old limestone mountain-tops still jut up out of the water like this.

Taken in Brasov, Romania. This was my favorite little bit of graffiti, just down the street from what's known as the Black Church, the largest gothic church between Vienna and Istanbul. I got shots of the church too, but I just really like the colors and overall design of this picture - I think it's the monster letters.

This shot of Frank - our wall-eyed, dachshund/corgi mix - was taken at home. He's a good little boy.

Taken in Bermuda. This was my favorite picture of a limestone cliff from our recent trip there. The texture was stunning - and of course the old ruins of the British military base on top added an extra point of interest.

Thanks everyone. I really can't believe how hard it was to pick only ten shots out of so many fond memories, but it sure is fun digging back through them all.

Very nice collection of photos. I appreciated your commentary on each one.

#1 has such a lovely compression of space with a distant haze that adds a timless backdrop to the ageing rafters of these old roofs. The overcast lighting adds a harsh mood to the drivers facial expression and a great sense of coldness is coveyed. #2 is a super composition with great fill in lighing on the face. The square window makes the photo and has just enough detail to prevent it being blon out altogether. #7 is a great capture of dappled quilted cloud cover extending appropriately to the thirds horizon. A nice mix of the best! Mike.

Well chosen shots. The first one conveys the harsh reality of the place. The second one of your wife is delightful, showing her patience but she's cold.

OH TO BE ABLE TO TRAVEL LIKE THAT. YOU HAVE SEEN ALOT OF COUNTRY. THATS A WONDERFUL THING TO BE ABLE TO DO. ALL ARE GREAT SHOTS. LOVE FRANK, HE IS ADORABLE. I COULD DO WITHOUT THE SPIDER. I HATE SPIDERS OF ANY KIND. WONDERFUL SET OF PICTURES AND THANK YOU FOR A WONDERFUL TOUR. RHONDA
Grandbrother said at 4:32 p.m. on Feb 10, 2009:
Much appreciated. And yes, I've been very grateful for the opportunities I've had to travel. I didn't really start traveling until my mid-twenties, but once I started, I got hooked. Now I pretty much always have an itch to go SOMEwhere. Especially now that I'm so interested in photography....

Amazing..........I can't wait to see your ten best part 2. Your wife has beautiful eyes and they really stand out in this picture thanks to the blizzard and the need to bundle up with hood and scarf. I really like the picture of the unusual spider as well the colors are great not what you expect a spider to look like.
