CAN YOU GUESS THE YEAR?

What year do you think that this photograph was taken?

I've added some clues below.  But please have a guess before you Google the answer.

IN THIS YEAR:

Evel Knieval set the world record jump over nineteen cars.

A ban on advertising cigarettes on radio & TV was introduced in the USA.

Apollo 14 lifts off for what will be the third successful moon landing.

Mount Etna erupts in Sicily.

Jim Morrison of The doors is found dead in his bathtub in Paris.

Pete Sampras & Alison Krauss were born...Audie Murphy, Louis Armstrong, Ogden Nash and Pete duel died.

The Attica prison riots took place.

The first Orca to be named 'Shamu' died.

The southernpart of Quebec, and especially Montreal, recieves 42cm of snow in what will become known as The Century's Snowstorm.

TV sitcom 'All in the Family' debuts on CBS.

Los Angeles: A jury recommends the death penalty for Charles Manson.

What were you doing back then?  Who were you with?  Maybe you hadn't been born yet, or were still at school.

Back in the 70's, for sure. I was still a child, so I probably was with Mom & Daddy. How did you get the colors restored?
Lifequest22 said at 10:52 a.m. on Feb 16, 2009:
Mike--is that you. Great restoration job on the photo. My guess is about 1973ish. And I didn't google. Pure guess.
Wildthing said at 10:59 a.m. on Feb 16, 2009:
EDUARDO: You picked a decade, not a year. And believe it or not they had color back then. The color shot is the original:) LINDA: Yeah, that's me posing & thinking my old junker was the best car in the world. You got the right decade:)
Tishfish said at 11:01 a.m. on Feb 16, 2009:
I think it's probably 1969.
Pachito said at 11:03 a.m. on Feb 16, 2009:
I'd say 1976...
Buschinho said at 11:04 a.m. on Feb 16, 2009:
must be 71, because of Jim Morrison...
I was not yet on this planet, not even planned ;-)
great job and creative as usual, thanks!!!

I agree with '71. Love this Mike!!! Takes me back few years. :)

YorkJodi said at 11:10 a.m. on Feb 16, 2009:
I would guess about 1972... although I thought the car was older than that...
If that's the year, I was married with 2 of my 3 children and I thought my Mother was O-L-D
Now I am 10 years older than she was then... and I think I'm still young...
Wildthing said at 11:11 a.m. on Feb 16, 2009:
I wasn't on this planet...Ha! I was reeling from the sixties. Think I'm still back in that magic decade. I'd rather be younger, but if I was, I'd have missed so much that happened in the late fifties onwards:)
Lifequest22 said at 11:14 a.m. on Feb 16, 2009:
It was a sad day when Jim Morrison died. Everyone over 30 was old back then.
Hollyridger said at 11:22 a.m. on Feb 16, 2009:
Just a guess..... 1971? Like you, Jodi, I was a mother to two by then and thought my dear Mum was ancient!!! Mike, what is the model of the car? Love the pose!
Whiptailizard said at 11:24 a.m. on Feb 16, 2009:
Didn't know the year (although I should have) but I do like that car and I had a feeling that was you Mike. It must be a guy thing to pose cool with his car because I have seen a number of photos of guys with their cars (my dad included which if I can dig it up I might have it some where)
PhotoPop said at 11:32 a.m. on Feb 16, 2009:
Somewhere in my archives I have a photo like that but I was trying to stop the door from falling off. My car was a clunker but it got me where I wanted to go. I say 1971.
Ira said at 11:49 a.m. on Feb 16, 2009:
I can not guess even with your helps. The photo seems to me very ancient. Model of the automobile and clothes... 70th years? I was born in 1976 and I remember the childhood very little. But I think, that this atmosphere was in that time.

AdSR said at 12:33 p.m. on Feb 16, 2009:
It's gotta be 1971 as Jim Morrison died that year. Now, Apollo 14 just two years after 11 - those guys were in a hurry :)
Leftofcenter said at 1:15 p.m. on Feb 16, 2009:
This one belongs in RETROSPECTIVE!! Love this photo. You look a bit like a clean-cut Scott McKenzie (are you going to San Francisco) That car looks like an antique dinky toy model!! In '71 I was barely a teenager listened to my older brother's records THE DOORS CCR BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS- and I still travelled and lived w/ mommy and daddy in faraway countries.
Chiloedream said at 1:47 p.m. on Feb 16, 2009:
1972? Ah les belles seventies... Merci Mike.
Moorlerche said at 1:50 p.m. on Feb 16, 2009:
Neat looking guy with no Parker, no bell-bottoms. A car with tail fins. The first moon-landing having taken place in the beginning of the sixties (62 or 63 as we know from Dirty Dancing). The hints are not ringing anything within me. My guess is 1967. A time when I was not yet alive.
Candlepower said at 2:02 p.m. on Feb 16, 2009:
Excellent restore job. Sometime in the mid 70's.
Wildthing said at 2:14 p.m. on Feb 16, 2009:
Hope it got you all thinking back to times now gone. It was 1971, as quite a few of you guessed. Thanks for joining in.

Pkeener said at 10:43 p.m. on Feb 16, 2009:

I love these old cars Mike, my first car in 1972 was an old (1963) VW Beetle!! and my son (a classic car lover) would like to know whether he is right that it is a Hillman Minx?
Memotions said at 6:18 p.m. on Feb 18, 2009:
Shoot.....I was 21...and it still seems like yesterday. sigh :( Hey Deb, I remember having "bomb scares" at Northeast in '68. Turned out they were searching the lockers for drugs (heaven forbid, weed and LSD), according to the rumour mill at the time. Of course, I was totally oblivious to what was going on. The kids in PE wouldn't even tell me dirty jokes because "she wouldn't get it." If I knew then what I know now......LOL Anyway, I had moved back to Canada and THAT was the year that they lowered the drinking age from 21 to 18 (it's 19 now in Ontario). Two weeks before my big 21st birthday bash. Talk about taking the wind out of your sails. This has triggered some great memories Mike. Thanks for taking us back.
