Sight Seeing in Kuala Lumpur 2009

Moorish arches.

I am walking around Dataran Merdeka with a camera in my hand on a bright and sunny day.  The arches, minarets and the bricks are of Bangunan Abdul Samad's and Mahkamah Syariah next to it.

Please give your comment and critism. Hopefully, I'd improve my photography shooting skills with your inputs. Thanks. (Dyanna).

Black and white iterations.

For this photo I try to tell the story of how Malaysia came to be. This building is an iconic building which is highly associated to Malaysia's Independence. In front of the building is the Dataran Merdeka (or Merdeka Square). It was here, the Union Jack flag was lowered and the Malayan flag hoisted for the first time at midnight on August 31, 1957. And at the back, are a few modern building standing tall and proud because we are MERDEKA (Independent).

Petronas Twin Towers and the Maxis tower.

Abstract from nature

ABOVE: Petronas Twin Towers and Maxis Tower. On weekends and public holiday, the best direction to look at is up. Simply because the ground was really crowded with hundreds and hundreds of visitors. I think those man made buildings really did complement the blue sky that day.

BELOW: Wilayah Persekuatuan Mosque located at Jalan Duta. We happened to be at the mosque when they're holding a special event, observing the solar eclipse. It's great to see mosques doing such activities other than the usual ones.

Malaysia is an Islamic country that is well known have many beautiful mosques. In parallel with the development of the country, the concept design of mosques has also been modernised. This mosque has been designed with the concept of 'Garden Theme'. It is one of the many landmarks in Kuala Lumpur and the basic design is based from the Turkish Ottoman mosques.

Mosques are regarded as an important institution in the Muslim community. In the earlier years of Islam, other than for religious activities, mosques are used as a knowledge center and also as center of the government.

The architectural design and interior decoration of this mosque is a fusion and combination of the local Malay and Middle East design. It could hold up to 17,000 people at one time and the area of the mosque covers about 47,000 square feet.
