University of the Philippines: Diliman Campus

UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES

DILIMAN CAMPUS

It had been a long time before I visited my alma mater last month. The University of the Philippines has always been my second home in Metro Manila. In my college years, I often thought about teaching in this great university, yet little did I know that I would eventually enjoy teaching in high school. I even took up some units for my Masteral Education, major in Anglo-American Literature. But two years ago, I lost interest, went AWOL, and busied myself with my work. Seeing the university again reminded me of so many things. It was the only witness to my dramatic transformation from being a timid and confused teenager to an awakened, liberal-minded young adult. It opened so many doors for me. The verdant expanse of the campus and even the strange architecture and paintings of the Parish of the Holy Sacrifice have always been a source of relaxation and inspiration. I'm glad that lately I've been able to visit the campus more often because I started running once again. I'm glad that at least I can always feel at home just whenever I want.

It's nice to have a form of sanctuary; a fountainhead to return to, where inspiration was born & nurtured. Nice set, James. Love those Pantrancos, and the cross silhouette.

I love the tree shots...so green and luscious James. The buses are so cool, if not a tad cramped looking. January eh? It looks like it must be 80f/27c there.

Love 'em greens!!! Wish my alma mater was as spacious. Animo La Salle! :D

Nikkilou in sight. And still toting the backpack. Haha

The jeepneys makes it look vintage. But then again, maybe there was no change?!?

BEAUTIFUL CAMPUS. MAYBE YOU SHOULD CONSIDER RETURNING AND GETTING YOUR DEGREE. EVEN PART TIME. I taught HS math and computer science for 33 yrs. I have also taught on
the college level at several institutions.

Charms, good to hear that UP has the same effect for you. I think I obsess too much with UP. Haha!

Mike, those "pantrancos" are called jeepneys. That's the most famous transportation vehicle in the Philippines. :)

Marius, I love that cross, too. It's one of my most faves here. :)

Thank you, Celia, Teo, Den, Ira, Bobbie, David, and Sue!

Olie! It's great to see you here. Haha! :) I hope you can master how to construct a tabblo. It is a great way to showcase your photos.

Eric, the "buses" are what we call jeepneys. There's one person who quoted that the 'jeepney' is the perfect metaphor of the Philippines. It could be beautiful or hideous, depending on how you see it.

Joaquin, I love the jeepneys. I have always loved it since we didn't have a car when I was a kid. I had a lot of inspiration boiling in my mind during the times I rode a jeepney. Especially in the province. But here in Manila, riding in a jeepney has always been quite an experience.

Bob, I want to get my masters degree! But maybe soon. Not now.

Deb, it was a pretty safe to be up there on the trunk. Haha!

These are the best photographs of UP I have ever seen, James! How I miss UP! I miss making tambay at the AS Steps (I don't know what they call the college now). I miss my UPSCA days at Delaney Hall and helping out at the chapel. I miss walking the tree-lined avenues or riding the Ikot Jeeps going to and from class or tambayans or the tennis courts. I even miss the inter-frat rumbles, which were less violent in my time. And many many more "I miss" moments! They were great times and I feel so blessed and honored to be part of it. Thank you very much for showcasing our wonderful alma mater!

every photo you take reveals another piece of you. This is exceptional i every way. your points of view, the coming and going of the students. the water lillies. I think i would be happy being a perpetual student. if only i could afford the tuition... Thank you, Jamsie.

Looks like a quiet, pristine, campus - perfect for that thoughtful discourse and reflection. I'm sure many people would wish to have studied there!
