Rio de Janeiro is now 444 years old. It was founded on March 1st 1565 as part of the Portuguese effort of gaining control of the French colony of Antarctic France, which had been created a little earlier by Nicolas Durand de Villegaignon.
If Portugueses hadn't won, I would be able to read Thierry's comments without Babelfish - but, on the other hand, this lovely city would probably be known as Fleuve de Janvier instead of Rio de Janeiro.
Hmmm, I must confess I'm glad Frenchs have been defeated. |

These photos were taken last Sunday, Rio's anniversary, at the Botanical Garden.
This magnificent garden was created by the Prince D. João (later King D. João VI of Brazil and Portugal), in 1808. |

These images were meant to be posted that very Sunday, but the day was so beautiful I thought it would be a waste of time not to enjoy it until the sun sets.
So, Happy (belated ) Birthday, Rio! |
