ORIGIN Old English geāra, geāre, of unknown origin.

of long ago or former times.

When I first stepped into High Two Advanced, my first thoughts were, "Oh My God. Not again." Over the course of a year, it became "Oh My God. Why does it have to end?" English Advanced was one of the best classes I was fortunate enough to be in. It helped me hone my skills in reading and writing and most specially, expressing myself. English Advanced this year was a very unique experience because of our freedom to write about anything we desire and that in my opinion is what made everyone's grade high; we enjoyed our work. Although, it was fun, it also proved stressful with all the challenges we had to face, constantly pressing us to work. It had a good side though because it also helped unleash our creative potential. This is most true in Tabblo. Not only do we have to think in words, but in pictures too. It unlocked a whole new way of learning and of teaching. I would even propose that Xavier adopt Tabblo as a teaching tool, seeing the success brought about by SirNicolay.

Overall, English Advanced is the most noteworthy subject I have ever taken up. The excellent Teacher, the optimistic students, the unique teaching style coupled with excellent use of technology made it the best.

Oh, how time flies so quickly. One moment, you're agonizing over a deck of cards, the next thing you know it, you're on the high road to being a Junior. How I wish that English Two Advanced would continue on even just for a little while longer. All the hardships, all the cramming, all the Tabblos, essays, boardgames, book reviews and Reader's Companions, the fun and LOL-factor when reading Romeo and Juliet--arise, I say! to the tragic moments of loss and cliché-ness, the epic photos of Mr Tabblo-God(In My Honest Opinion) a.k.a SirNicolay and specially the sleepless nights and 11:59 submission times, how I wish that it would continue on. But, as the cliché goes, "all great things must come to an end." Cheers! to everyone, former or still Advanced, Mr. James Nicolay, and the great days of yore that is High Two Advanced English...

I love you guys...

Here are the activities that, in one way or another helped make every second of High Two Advanced English the most memorable time of my school life.

TABBLO #1

         Pointless...

For me, my best work would be my Sonnet Tabblo because It was the only time that I was able to be emo and pour my heart out. It helped me fully unleash my creative potential. Although, I do admit that writing a sonnet is really difficult for me because of the limitations like having 10 syllables with a very restrictive rhyming scheme. It was also difficult to adjust to the new theme after all the "highness" and happiness of the themes during the Third Quarter(XSE and all) But, I loved what turned out to be my most memorable activity of High Two Advanced.

TABBLO #2

slow down

My second favorite, would be, yet another form of poetry, this time, a Haiku. At first, I was seemingly fooled by the simplicity of this seventeen-syllable nature poem, but after SirNicolay unlocked the grace and beauty behind it's simplicity, I was in love. It was also the first activity I really really enjoyed because we were not only allowed to write on our own Tabblo, but reply to other's Tabblos, of course, also in a Haiku. More importantly, this Tabblo did not only allow me to showcase my Haiku but also my own personal photographs which is my passion and joy.

TABBLO #3

Lake Caliraya

Finally, ranked among my top three would be my Lake Caliraya Tabblo because it was really, in my honest opinion, my first "organized" Tabblo. When I was making this, I was just having fun because I was again able to showcase my photography skills and how amazing the trip to Lake Caliraya is. The beauty was that I was able to have fun while keeping in line with the grammar requirements.

My best composition would be "For The Scientist in You" mainly because, it is a news article. It was the only essay where I was able to present something properly, because I'm not really that good at other forms of compositions.

Aside from this, it is my favorite essay because it is my most memorable one. The trip to Singapore was my first study tour out of the country. It was also the most fun because I was with my best buddies and classmates all the while. That is why I will never forget this essay. :)

The Happy Prince

by Wilde, Oscar

Stories. Where do I start? 'Cause when we say English advanced, Mr. Nicolay sees to it that we get the cream of the crop. After much debating with myself, I would conclude that the best story of the entire English Advanced would be the Happy Prince.

The Happy Prince is a short story by renowned author, Oscar Wilde. Basically(sorry, Doug) Happy Prince is about a migrating swallow who stumbles upon a golden crying statue of a prince whom he befriends and learns of his heartbreaking situation. The Happy Prince is one of those feel-good stories that makes you appreciate the wonder of life, and the good 'ol cliché lesson to do good in life. I really appreciate this story and it's worth it's weight in gold. Compared to the other Wilde stories(pardon the pun) like the Nightingale and the Rose, this is one of the more lighthearted stories. I would highly recommend this not only to the Advanced students but to the entire High Two.

Tong,

I don't think I even have to admit to your face that I really love having you as my student--mostly, because you are weird. Hahaha! It's great to have a photographer and an artist as a student; also great to have a "sabaw" student who usually surprises me with just weird "sabaw episodes." And you didn't fail me--even up to our last picture--what the hell was that microphone doing in the picture. And even in the QT puzzle, you're still there. For this, I'm truly grateful for your presence in my class. :)

I'm giving you a 92 in this tabblo because I wanted the assessment to be a bit longer. :p

Anyway, see you around. Hopefully, we get to take more pictures together next time around.

- Mr. Nicolay
