Congratulations to the award winners. Are those bolt action dummy rifles? I can't imagine these younglings using M1's.

Yes, dummy rifles. One team even used dummy M-16's. Some schools do not allow the use of any form of rifle, in which case the kids do routines wearing white gloves doing snappy salutes and other arm signal type movements which are quite impressive when done in good syncopation. Being an "armed" drill squad or platoon does not gain more points.
