Night Magic

 I was enthralled to hear from Linda that this carousel at Disney World was originally built in 1914.  You don't really expect history like this to exist in the Magic kingdom.

 

Linda scanned the above article and sent it to me, so I've taken the liberty -which was the original name of the carousel - of adding it to my tabblo.

Rhonda: I took most of these night shots at the Magic Kingdom with the 'Beast' (my Canon) set on auto. Some I took on slower speeds, and found somewhere to rest the camera so I could use the timer and avoid shake.

Mike--there is a lot of history behind Cinderella's Carousel. Before it ended up in Disney World, it was a main attraction at an Olympic Park in Maplewood NJ ( my home town) from 1928 until 1965 when the park closed. Walt Disney bought it and reburbished it for Disney World in Orlando. As a kid I rode that Merry-go-round a zillion times and tried to catch the brass ring.

My Mom also rode it as a kid and an adult. It was built in 1914 in Germantown PA by the Philidelphia Toboggan Co. by German and Italian craftsmen. All hand-carved wooden horses.

I've always thought that the Magic kingdom is a truly magical place, especially at night. It's a place where you can/should forget the daily grind and be a kid again, full of wonder and devoid of cynicism. Thank you all for the comments.
