Fla x Flu

Fla x Flu is the classic of the classics in Brazilian soccer.

Flamengo is the most popular team in this country, Fluminense being  the most traditional one.

 

It's the semifinal match of Carioca Cup (Rio de Janeiro championship) . The winner will face my team, Botofogo, next week.

I took my brother Hélder and his children, Caio & Amanda, to watch the battle in the Maracanã Stadium.

 

My brother is Flamengo supporter, his daughter is Fluminense supporter. One of them will not be smiling at the end of this derby...

 

 

 

 

Flamengo is the king of Brazilian hearts,

with approximately 33 million supporters.

 

 It's Rio's team of the masses, known as the team of the poor and the blacks,

its symbol being a black vulture. Its colors are black & red.

 

"Win, win and win / once you are Flamengo/ you are Flamengo until you die", says its anthem.

Fluminense is thought of as the team of the elite.

 

It's nickname is 'white powder,' referring to the powder used to lighten the faces of the "not so white" players of an earlier era (only whites from wealthy families were allowed in this exclusive club).

 

Fluminense means both "fluvial" and natural from Rio (=river)

de Janeiro.

¡¡¡Parecés un fotógrafo del Mundial!!! Esa última foto es una maravilla. ¿¿¿Cómo sacaste esas jugadas de goles, tan cercanas??? Pero lo que más me gusta es lo que miro yo en los partidos: la gente, los hinchas, las tribunas, toda esa emoción que, si bien nunca sentí, puedo entender y compartir. Las caras, los gestos, la locura del color representativo. ¡¡Genial!! Flamengo es siempre un ícono para mí. "Sou Flamengo e tenho uma negra chamada Teresa...".

TEO: That's right, I've never heard of a Malaysian national team... Well, hope you are a Brazilian supporter, anyway.

LILIANA: Fotografar esporte é muito mais difícil que fotografar cachorros, estátuas, fazendas ou crianças. Os zooms foram feitos com a mesma lente que uso para "roubar" fotos de vez em quando. Não é nada espetacular, mas aproxima um pouco. Eu torcia pelo Flamengo porque queria fotografar a torcida rubro-negra, muito mais animada que a tricolor. Se Jorge Ben fosse fluminense, talvez a canção fosse "Sou Fluminense e tenho uma loira chamada Ingrid"...

FÁBIO: O Cortíntians (assim como o Vasco) está (merecidamente!) na segunda divisão. Vc não é corintiano (ou vascaíno), é??

FÁBIO: Curíntcha? Bom, pelo menos algo você e o Lula têm em comum... LOL

LILIANA: Acho que os fluminenses originais eram ingleses, mas preciso me inteirar melhor da história do time. De qualquer maneira, é um reducionismo dizer que o Flamengo é o time dos pretos, e Fluminense o dos brancos (ainda que isso seja visível no estádio). Os dois times são igualmente populares, cada um a seu modo. A propósito, Chico Buarque é flu ("satisfeito / alegria batendo no peito / radinho tocando direito / a vitória do meu tricolor" - Bom Tempo).

Eu não sou apreciadora de futebol. Acho que o futebol se tornou uma espécie de "guerra" dos tempos modernos. Mas na família tenho grandes fans!

SEAN: It's really fun, but it wasn't that crowded (only about 70,000 people in a stadium designed for 92,000 people).

DEN & DEBBIE: I'm not a hooligan nor a fanatic supporter, but I do enjoy the emotions of a good match. You are right: "futebol" (the way we spell the word in Portuguese) is a religion, almost an obsession here.

JORMA: I totally agree, my friend! It is a pity only you and me think this way... LOL

LILIANA: "Rubro" é um equivalente mais sofisticado de "vermelho", assim como "negro" o é de "preto". Em futebol, isso é muito usado: o Botafogo, cuja bandeira é branca e preta, é conhecido como "alvinegro" (alvo + negro, não preto + branco). O azul vira "celeste", o verde se torna "esmeralda" e por aí vai. Literalmente, "rubro" significa "da cor do fogo" ou "vermelho intenso". Ah, sim, a nossa bandeira é "auriverde" '("áureo" soa muito melhor que "amarelo", não?).

não sabia que eras chegado ao football. Mas ao saber que seu time é o Sofredor tá explicado. Avise à Lili que sim, os fluminenses são "escandinavos " e que os flamenguistas são pitecantropos. Os fluminenses têm escolaridade completa e os flamenguistas não tem os dentes da frente. Os fluminenses moram nas cotas mais baixas da cidade, no nível do mar, e os flamenguistas nas cotas altas dos morros da cidade. Sou fluminense por educação mas como vc pode talvez ter percebido não simpatizo muito com o urubu. Gostei mais da última foto

Eduardo: después de escribir percibí el "negro" por "preto". Acá es algo similar: nuestra camiseta es la"albiceleste" (¡¡celeste y blanca!!), la de Boca: azul y oro (¡es amarillo, en realidad!), otra, creo que de San Lorenzo, "azul y grana" (como granate, el color de la granada, nadie habla así), sé que hay más, la verdad es que no soy experta en el tema pero es interesantísimo cómo el lenguaje se "sofistica" , en algunos casos, al hablar de fútbol.
Flamengo sería Boca y Fluminense, River...
¿Tenés idea de por qué se llama Flamengo? Supongo que por el barrio (como Boca, por La Boca) pero la causa del nombre del barrio. ¿Había un solo flamenco, ahí...?

LILIANA: Teorias sobre o nome "Flamengo" (o time herdou o nome do bairro onde nasceu):

1. FLAMENGO - 1. "da cor da chama, vermelho, flamíneo", derivado de flama, do latim flamma "chama". Pertence a uma família palavras com o significado ligado a "chama, fogo, luz, brilho, queimar, brilhar, arder", remontando à raiz indo-européia *bHleg^-, bHelg^- "queimar, brilhar, chama", de onde o Latim flamma (<*flagma), "chama" (aliás, "chama" é a forma portuguesa derivada de flamma, enquanto "flama" é termo erudito, latinizante), fulmen "raio" (<*bHl.g^-mn.), fulmina:re "fulminar, queimar com o raio" e fulgur "relâmpago"; o Grego phlox "chama", phleg- "queimar"; o Inglês black "negro, originalmente, queimado".

2. FLAMENGO - é uma homenagem ao navegador flamengo, na verdade holandês, Olivier van Noort, conhecido como Le Blond, que a bordo de um navio do tipo Urca esteve no Rio de Janeiro no século XVII (e que também deu nome ao bairro do Leblon).

3. FLAMENGO - O nome teria origem na denominação dos prisioneiros também conhecidos por flamengos, que moraram na região durante o Seiscentismo (anos que abrangem o período de 1600 a 1699), trazidos de Pernambuco e transferidos para a região (época da colonização holandesa no Brasil).

4. FLAMENGO - está relacionada a presença de muitos flamingos trazidos para o Brasil das regiões banhadas pelo Mediterrâneo. Haveria tantos que um oficial alemão dos batalhões estrangeiros do Primeiro Reinado, C. Schlichthurst, escreveu em seu livro de memórias "O Rio de Janeiro como é": "... e passam voando os flamingos com o esplendor de suas cores brilhantes e borboletas variegadas de tamanho nunca visto..."

Dei umas boas risadas lendo alguns dos comentários bem-humorados dos seus amigos e amiga. Taí! Eu nunca imaginaria você no Maracanã tirando estas fotos... Mas fotógrafo é fotógrafo e se faz bem o que faz (você certamente faz), o faz em qualquer situação. Ué, você não é Cruzeirense?... Pior (ou melhor) sou eu: torço para o Flu e para o Fla. Nunca vi contradição maior, mas, juro, é a pura verdade e há um explicação lógica pra isso. Estive no Maracanã uma única vez, há muito tempo. O Flu perdei de 4a 0. Acho que não vi nenhum gol, pois não há 'replay', e tem-se que ficar atento ao jogo. Eu, ao c ontrário, ficava prestando atenção nas duas torcidas.

Eliane e Eduardo, Eu era Santista e mudei para o Corinthians. E' um outro jeito de se apreciar o futebol e toda a experiencia humana com ele. Mais ou menos como na fotografia. ELIANE: Já tinha feito dois tabblos sobre o Maracanã (um fatídico Fluminense x Cruzeiro, do qual a raposa saiu coberta de pó-de-arroz). Não fotografei mais coisas por lá por medo de levar a cam (dentro do estádio é tranquilo, mas do lado de fora o bicho pega). Sou Cruzeirense em Minas e Botafoguense no Rio, com simpatias pelo Palmeiras em SP. É, infelizmente no estádio não tem replay, nem tira-teima nem locutor te convencendo de que está emocionante aquele jogo tedioso. Da próxima vez, vou levar um radinho de pilha.

FÁBIO: Mudar de time, pra mim, é mais complicado que mudar de religião. Há inúmeros ex-católicos agora evangélicos, mas nunca topei com um ex-flamenguista convertido ao Fluminense. Pq será? Também vejo o esporte como uma experiência humana, antropológica. O melhor do jogo foi ver a torcida, ouvir os palavrões, sentir a vibração do estádio a cada lance perigoso. Já pensou se esse povo encara a política como faz com o futebol??
