~ Day Trippers ~

Love, or something like it!

It was cold and dull with rain in the air on Easter Sunday, but that didn't stop us joining all the other 'lemmings', as we drove to the coast in heavy traffic.

Day tripping to the seaside is a Brit tradition that is undaunted by the elements.

We eventually found a parking space, and walked around the harbour.  The light was bad, but I still clicked away at people, who grimly ate fish & chips (fries), ice cream, and an assortment of other junk food.

The shrieking of hordes of seagulls filled the air and, despite the weather, we had a fun time.

Cone-licking takes a lot of concentration.

'You want some of this, Butch?'

'No way, Jose. It's packed with artery-clogging fat'

'I must start that diet....on Monday!'

'Careful, honey! I don't know how to do the Heimlich maneuver.'

Three cone Caroline.

Easy riders.

'I think I just sprained my ankle'

'Oh, Dad, this is soooooo good'

Serious business!

Chillin' out on a cold day

'Aw, come on, share it, pal. I'm starving'

Taking you, taking me :)

About to lose a large dollop of his ice cream

'It's freezing, so why are we eating this stuff?'

Grandad joins in the fun. Rock on.

Sittin' on the dock of the bay

Mmmm. Minty toothpaste flavour

Smokin' his pipe of peace

Waiting in line for fish 'n' chips

Caring & sharing ~ On reflection I agree with Pam. This shot speaks volumes about the elderly couple.

Looks like he had a parrot on his shoulder

Tony the tap dancing seagull

Looks like everyone had fun despite the weather. Great shots Mike. I had a giggle at the dog refusing the french fries, smart dog ! !

Great (and hungry) images Mike!! good tabblo!

Thank you so much uncle Mike ;-) for your funny fotostory. I enjoyed it!!!
Wildthing said at 7:28 a.m. on Apr 16, 2009:
DOREEN: That dog really wouldn't take a handout. OSCAR: Everyone seemed to be eating that day. PATRICK: UNCLE??? :)

Way cool !

What a fun tabblo. I felt the damp coolness in the air as I was scrolling though, thanks for this!
Wopmusic said at 8:40 a.m. on Apr 16, 2009:
wow these brits sure know how to chow down!
Wildthing said at 8:49 a.m. on Apr 16, 2009:
Thanks, ERIC. A chill wind off the north Sea keeps most folk on the move, as they drink coffee and eat hot food. As you can see, some hardy individuals even enjoy ice cream.

Hey, FRANKO, you're right. We like to go to the beach and eat on our feet:) CHARLES: It was way cool, in more ways than one:)
Pkeener said at 8:51 a.m. on Apr 16, 2009:
Mikey! you really caught it! The human beings at their indulgent worst, or best? the gull making her feelings quite known throughout the tabblo. These fab colors really work well with the photos. I just love the flavor of this, the British=isms. I might have to disagree with your shot of the day. My fave is Caring and Sharing. with Easy Riders a close second...it took me sooo looong to find out, but I found out! Yeah!
Wildthing said at 8:58 a.m. on Apr 16, 2009:
Glad you liked it, Pam. And I think you're right, 'Caring & Sharing' says so much about that elderly couple and their lives.
Lifequest22 said at 9:12 a.m. on Apr 16, 2009:
Mike--wonderful photos of a Brit feeding frenzy. A feel good tabblo chockful of lots of great images. Love all the shots of the folks enjoying their ice cream and your captions are right on target.
Hhwind said at 9:13 a.m. on Apr 16, 2009:
Wow Mike this is something ice cream on a cold day, lots of food and people love the gulls too
Wildthing said at 9:25 a.m. on Apr 16, 2009:
Ha! I like that, LINDA: 'A Brit feeding frenzy'.
I took so many of people eating & drinking, so had to select a few of the ones I liked best. Got some of Joan & Lorraine scoffing fish & chips, but was warned off from posting them:)

Thanks, TEO. I don't really understand why people eat ice cream in cold weather. The gulls get plenty of handouts.
Lageho said at 9:31 a.m. on Apr 16, 2009:
Very nice photos, a lot of people looks very hungry.
Wildthing said at 9:40 a.m. on Apr 16, 2009:
Thank you, LARS. It must be the sea air that gives everyone a good appetite.

Hi, RETA. It made me hungry, too. So I stopped taking pics and had a large tray of fish & chips:)
Leftofcenter said at 10:26 a.m. on Apr 16, 2009:
there's nothing like fish & chips in the brisk seaside breeze - and watch those seagulls!!
Robya said at 11:07 a.m. on Apr 16, 2009:
Hi Mike, It was like walking on the boardwalk, I used to do this all the time in Monterey and Santa Cruz when I lived there for many years. I love your seagull shots!~~Robbi
Robya said at 11:08 a.m. on Apr 16, 2009:
Also, I like the shot you did in the Sepia tone.

This is a nice group of photos....of people eating. I understand why people eat ice cream in cold weather! :)
Chilla said at 11:44 a.m. on Apr 16, 2009:
I think this is simply brilliant!!! My preference is for the pictures of the boats and gulls but your captions are just so apt that I was completely taken along with you.
Ira said at 11:59 a.m. on Apr 16, 2009:
Fun!
Wildthing said at 12:29 p.m. on Apr 16, 2009:
IRA: Thanks, it was a fun day at the coast.
CELIA: Day trippers are such a feature of resorts that I couldn't resist posting a tab of them.
ROBBI: I remember the pier at monterey from 1979. Especially the seals. And that sepia shot is one of my personal favourites.
ANNELIES: Yeah, Scully, those gulls are like Hitchcock-gulls, swooping for food.
JOE: Is it true you have guinness-flavoured ice cream across the water :) ?
CONNIE: I much prefer ice cream in hot weather, rushing to eat it as it melts:)
Shenresi said at 12:42 p.m. on Apr 16, 2009:
wonderful moments, that you catched, Mike!!! i like the eating scenes and the seagulls-great captures!!!
Moabjeeper said at 12:45 p.m. on Apr 16, 2009:

ARTUR: That's a nice compliment. Thank you.
SANDY: I almost always have a camera with me, and take pics wherever I go. Maybe I need some therapy:)
WOODY: Hope my pics made you 'hungry'...for more:)

Absolytely wonderful beach story, Mike!
Very well done!
ConnieL said at 2:19 p.m. on Apr 16, 2009:
Mike, I prefer ice cream in any weather!! Must admit it does 'hit the spot' in hot weather....or cold. :))
Wildthing said at 2:23 p.m. on Apr 16, 2009:
So just how many pints and flavors of ice cream have you got in your fridge, CONNIE? Glad you liked my pics of a day at the coast, DEN.
ConnieL said at 3:01 p.m. on Apr 16, 2009:
Unfortunately, at the moment, not a one.
Wildthing said at 3:10 p.m. on Apr 16, 2009:

very nice tabblo, super photos.
EMA said at 9:45 p.m. on Apr 16, 2009:
A wonderful tabblo Mike! It's amazing! Once the weather was bad, it seems that the best thing to do was eating something. :) Great photos, and your lengends are always delicious! My favorite photo is the one in sepia but I think I like them all!
Wildthing said at 5:40 a.m. on Apr 17, 2009:
SNO: Spontaneous fun is usually far better than something planned that doesn't live up to expectation.
SUE: That dog was a real character.
EDITE: I was going to do more of them in sepia, then changed my mind and just selected the one I thought it would suit best.
MARGALIT: Thank you for looking in. Glad you like it.

Thanks, Jeanine, Ann, Rhonda & Farid..... No, Farid, that first gull was screeching for food, so I named it Farid. Ha! LOL :)

WOW........great shots for a great holiday !!!
Wildthing said at 10:51 a.m. on Apr 18, 2009:
Thank you, David. It was very dull, but I realize that every pic doesn't have to be taken in perfect weather conditions. It's like one of my favourite sayings: 'Some days are sunshine, and some days are rain'. That just about sums up life for me.
Zippywinds said at 12:31 p.m. on Apr 18, 2009:
oh i enjoyed these captures, I live in the Boston and the same day tripping experience is the same, as peeps go to Cape Cod or the Cape Ann area and the traffic, parking and crowds and food experience is the same as well. great tabblo :)
Wildthing said at 1:31 p.m. on Apr 18, 2009:
Zippywinds: Maybe peeps are basically the same everywhere, and we have more in common than we realize.
Zippywinds said at 2:36 p.m. on Apr 18, 2009:
yup Wildthing , but now I'm doing day tripping on non-peak times, to soak in the true beauty of the area, but on occasionaly I will go on peak times to peep watch :)
