Trees of ta prohm the jungle temple

Ta Prohm the Jungle Temple built by King Jayavarman VII to honour his mother in 1186 was a royal monastery. This temple was chosen by Ecole Francaise d'Extereme Orient to be left in its "natural state" as an example of how most of Angkor looked on its discovery in the 19th Century. So some of these majestic trees are left growing over the temple. This temple was used as a outdoor set in the filming of  "The Tomb Raiders" and the picture above was where Angelina Jolie emerge from the entrance in the film. It was late evening when the pictures were taken giving rise to a  beautiful golden  glow on the trunks of the trees.

This is awesome, Teo. Great pics of nature slowly reclaiming the earth that the temple was built on so long ago

Thanks Charles,Celia,Mike and Doreen these magnificient trees are truly beautiful but they are also the source of destruction to this ancient temple. At the moment a Korean Company is restoring the temple it would take at least 5 to 10 years of hardwork but they will leave these trees alone. You are right Charles that the trees look terrifying for they are gigantic and the roots are everywhere.

Obviously a testament to how long those buildings have been there.

Thanks Eric and Reta for visiting and commenting appreciate it. Only the temples survive the passage of time as they are made of laterite and sandstone.whereas the royal palace were made of wood.
