Hindus believe in many gods and Goddesses. The main god is Brahman. In Hinduism, Brahman in the creator of the world, and one's ultimate goal in life is to reunite with the spirit of Brahman. Because this may take several lifetimes to achieve, Hindus also believe in reincarnation. One can be reincarnated as many times as needed to reunite with Brahman. Buddhism began in India and is now a major world religion. It is one of the religions that has rejected Hinduism. Buddhism was founded when Sidd Hartha, a prince, ran away from home to discover the meaning of life. After weeks of meditation, the answer finally came to him. He became enlightened, and renamed himself "Buddha."
Buddha concluded that suffering is a part of life, and is caused by our desires. To rid of our suffering, we must rid of our desires. Unlike Hindus, Buddhists may become enlightened in just one lifetime.
