Religions in India

Hinduism is the largest and oldest religion in India. It believes in a strict caste system and following dharama (righteousness). Pictured right are pictures of just some of the many Gods Hindus believe in.

Jainism is the smallest religion in india. Many who follow Jainism are vegetarians or frutarians as they believed that any harm against a living thing is bad for one's karma.

Buddhism is not only one of India's major religions, but also one of the world's major religions as well. It was one of the religions to challenge the ideas of Hinduism. Its followers believe that the main goal in life is to find peace. Pictured right are pictures of the Buddha (Sidarthur).

Christianity was brought into India when British and Portuguese missionaries travelled to South Asia. There are approximately 20 million Christians in India today. Pictured left is a picture of the cross where Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was crucified. The next picture is a picture of the Holy Bible.

Sikhism was founded by Guru Nanak Dev Ji. They were similar to the Hindus in the way that they believed in reincarnation and karma. However, they're different in the way that they only believe in one God that has many names and forms.

The Islam religion believes that everyone is equal. Many civilians who belonged in the lower castes converted to Islam because of its belief that everyone is equal. Pictured left is the Koran and the many Muslims praying.
