New York Is Greek!

The Greek Independence Day Parade was recently held on a beautiful Sunday afternoon on 5th Avenue next to Central Park.

Many events lead up to the war. 25 March 1821 marks the date Bishop Germanos of Patras raised the Greek flag at Agia Lavra Monestary and is the official date that is celebrated

Θεόδωρος Κολοκοτρώνης

Theodoros Kolokotronis:

A great resistance leader and general in the Revolution. He was the Hellenic equivalent of George Washington and Simon Bolivar.

There are many Hellenic societies and associations in America. They also served the social and cultural needs of the immigrants. They would also hold events to raise money to help the villages they left behind in the old country. Today, they help us retain our ties to each other and to our heritage.

We are proud of our

dual heritage.

God Bless America!

Long life, Greece! The whole world owes a lot to the Greeks - and I'm not talking only about Irene Papas, Theo Angelopoulos, Kostas Gravas, Konstantinos Kavafis and feta cheese...
