Sunset at Double Arch

Arches National Park-            Moab, Utah    April, 2009

Balanced Rock on our approach to the Double Arch.

Double Arch in the distance in the upper left photo.   Rock formations in Arches and generally in the Moab area are incredible.    Below, members of our sunset team currently explore a cavern destined to be an arch in a few hundred thousand years from now.

Double Arch has actually 4 distinct arches in the one structure.    The cavern that the arches create is huge and gives a feeling of being in the largest of all Italian cathedrals.   We climbed a steep wall to perch precariously on one of the "window ledges" that faced to the west.

For scale, please notice that there is a person in the lower left portion of the photo, quietly absorbing the aura of the time and place.

Returning from exploring present caverns as possible future arches.

To the east, from our same vantage point, the Manti La Sal Mountains light up in the setting sun beyond formations holding other arches.

Nice mix of images. You caught some good light. Arches Park is incredible. The balanced rock is quite distinctive .. I have some shots of it from my trip there.
