A weekend in Vienna 1990

We arrived in Vienna to a heatwave, but with thunderstorms overnight the temperatures dropped and we had to enjoy our weekend break in the rain on Saturday! A visit to St Stephen's Cathedral was a great place to start.

Luckily the weather improved and we continued sight seeing around this beautiful city. We attended a Viennese Concert on the Saturday evening, and it was like attending a New Year's Concert from Vienna, only it wasn't New Year!

Goethe

Schubert

Sunday was a much better day. We started by visiting the famous Lipitzano Horses and watched a display that was quite amazing (no photographs though). After that we wandered around the city looking for statues of famous people, mainly composers.

The most spectacular of these was the statue of Johann Strauss. This was made even more extraordinary when a choir gave an impromptu performance in front of the statue.

Schubert

Goethe

Mozart

Mozart

Brahms

Schindler

Beethoven

Strauss

Thank you Mikalis.
Thanks Jan, it is a beautiful city, and we had a lot of fun looking for the statues!!
Thanks David, I will have to return to provide more pictures!! These were taken in pre-digital days so the film tended to limit the photography!

How curious! Have you noticed that most of the statues have the same sitting positions. It seams they had already an Austrian standard sculpturing in the past centuries.
